New Zealand Toy Trains - More Cranko types

********************************************************************************

The first type Cranko live steam locomotive, plus part of early sales pamphlet and photo of Donald Cranko.

********************************************************************************

First type Cranko locomotives. Made for about 5 years until 1952. Small differences in design. Compare the usual example (below)with my loco below that. Four differences apparent -

I assume my model is the earliest version, no filler/drain plug on boiler front. Also different shape footplate, rear wheels, no lip on chimney.

******************************************************************************

Cranko electric passenger train. Part replica, part restored original, and part fully original. Powered by Australian made `Electra` 6 wheel mechanism, as also used by Maurlyn trains. Only two of these Cranko power cars known to exist, this is replica body with original type motor.

********************************************************************************

One of the very few known examples of the power car still existing! This is as found in recent times, crudely repainted, missing centre wheels of motor, missing bogies at each end, etc. Compare with photo above. Note different position of headlight, both styles were made, not known which was the earlier.

********************************************************************************

`Electra` motor as bought by Cranko from Australia to power the power car. This motor was also used by the Australian `Maurlyn` brand.

********************************************************************************

The `Mighty Atom`. Simple and quite crude, with single cylinder with flywheel in cab. No throttle or reverse - BUT - nevertheless a good runner with no fuss! Cranko goods wagons behind.

********************************************************************************

RARE! Cranko railcar and `diesel` shunter. Both powered by English `Taycol` 6 volt DC motor. The railcar used the same body as the 4.6.4 unit shown above, and also the passenger coach. The shunter had a wagon base and steam loco cab, plus a hood. These are the only examples in working order known to still exist.
