The best thing I can say about forwarding e-mail is DON'T DO IT. There are ways to send along that joke, picture, etc. without using "forward".
I know people who have a message rule set up in Outlook Express that automatically deletes off the server, any mail that has FW or FWD in the subject line. They never even see the mail. Then there are those that have rules set up to send that mail to a special folder (mine is named "Forwarded Mail" and they read that mail when they get around to it - sometimes many months after receiving it.
One thing to keep in mind when forwarding mail is all those e-mail addresses - sometimes over a hundred of them - yours included, that are being sent all over cyberspace. There are people out there "grabbing" those e-mail addresses and selling them. Personally I don't want my e-mail address being forwarded to hundreds of people that I don't even know.
Probably the best way to avoid forwarding mail is to COPY the portion of the mail you received, and then PASTE it into a new letter. That takes a few minutes (at the most) and will be greatly appreciated by most of your correspondents. I know people that say they hate having to scroll down through "all those addresses" in order to read the joke, and then turn around and forward that same letter, which adds even more addresses to the next recipient.
Once in a while it seems that you really have to forward an e-mail, or you lose the pictures that are included. When it needs to be done, you can click on the Forward button and then you'll see all of the letter that the recipient will see... including all the addresses, headers and footers. While you're looking at that letter, you can delete all of that unwanted information by doing the following:
Click once at the beginning of the letter. (You won't see anything happen)
Scroll down to where you can SEE the end of the addresses & headers, HOLD the SHIFT key and then Click once just before the start of what you actually want to send. Everything in-between is now highlighted. Hit the Delete key on your keyboard (to the right of Backspace) and all of that will disappear. Do the same at the end of what you want to send, to get rid of any footers.
Now the body of the e-mail has been cleaned up. However the subject still shows as: FW: FW: FWD: FW: Cute joke (or something like that) and you can easily change that by clicking once at the beginning of the subject line and hitting the Delete key as many times as it takes to clean up the subject line to read "Cute joke" - or you can remove everything in the subject line and type in what you want it to say. |
