Terry Smith is quite mad. You'd have to be to play Northumbrian Pipes, tin whistle, bodhran & low whistle all at the same time. He sings as well, you know. This also makes Terry the one who plays things without strings. What's more, he owns more hats than the rest of the band has heads to wear them. Terry is the only member of Tir na n'Og who was imported. His roots go back to Northumbria itself (which is where he picked up the piping habit, we suppose) and he's a Geordie through and through. Having spent his formative years in New Brunswick, Terry came to Calgary in 2001 (he's a geologist - all of them end up in Alberta at some point!) and hooked up with Tir na n'Og shortly thereafter. Apart from being a fine Celtic musician, Terry is also an accomplished Bluegrass bass player. His other occupations and talents include lapidary, instrument maker, surveyor, geologist, dental technician, security guard, photographer... the list goes on. |
