TISM Prince of Wales Thursday night review, Dieter Kraus, Beat, 9/10/02

Ruck Rover and Klinger were tonights supports. Must be a hard task to play to a crowd who has made the journey for one reason only. Both bands played well, but lacked any significant interest from the crowd. Klinger displayed some bizzarro pop stylings in places. Tism are masters at crowd manipulation, and the manipulation of some tripleM favorites got the punters in a tone of expectation. Costumed and framed the masked men took the stage to luanch into Defecate . What was shit for the early part was the sound mix, lacking bass and fullness, or perhaps the hearing is really on the slide. RHB`s antics were perdictably chaotic as he made another seemingly accidental foray into the crowd. This is what everybody comes to see in a Tism show, that sense of chaos and an unpredictable set list that becomes predictable when the song begins. A journey into the well worn and gig tested tracks of Tism`s large back cataloge. Going through the motions to some degree, but these motions take considerable effort and being a best off show there were plenty of broad smiles through-out the crowd. River is always a highlight and took in the full impact of Tism at high tempo. Taking a stop-over at Morrison Hotel was a surprise and made the rant of the evening. Tism were well warmed up by later parts of the gig as were the punters. The new tracks fit well within the confines of Tism`s set and all was recieved faithfully, even an ending that was the same as the beginning(?). An extra edge of atmosphere was the only thing lacking from tonights performance, thats the tale of Thursday before a GF. [Grand Final - Ms .45]
