Nikolai Zherdev, 6-1 185 F, CKSA Russia
Scouting: an electrifying player with a ton of offensive skills, Zherdev's offensive upside is as good as anyone in the draft.. explosive skater, is at top speed in just a few steps.. Is very agile and can turn corners very quickly, will seem like he isn't a threat with the puck and than explode around the defender and rush to the goal.. Awesome stickhandling ability is a leathal combination with his skating when going through traffic and is very hard to control 1 on 1.. Can manover the puck through or around defenders very quickly..  pin point accurate passing, finds players open with crisp passes.. Very accurate shooter with a quick release.. Could improve his play without the puck and in the defensive zone where his contribution is minimal.. Doesn't show much hustle. His skills are worthy of a Number 1 selection though I just couldn't see myself taking him over any of Horton, Michalek or Staal. All of those 3 guys give good defensive efforts and Zherdev doesn't. On top of that, Staal and Horton standing 6-3 have the potential to fill out a lot and become real forces. I prefer the upside of those 3 rather than a 1 dimensional player.
