Deck Dress
The Deck Dress is worn by Rose while she and Jack strolled the deck of Titanic, during the day of Saturday April 13th 1912, the day after the jump scene.
It consists of a yellow skirt with a flower pattern, a short sleeved cream bodice with lace collar and gold embroidery. A yellow sash with an oval buckle graces the waist.
The dress also has long undersleeves of cream material. There is  a slight gather in the front of the skirt, and the back of the skirt has a slight gather.
The Deck Dress could nearly be a skirt with a blouse if it was seen from far away.
Even if the sleeves are long, it is quite possible that it was thought to be a dress with short sleeves as the longer sleeves seem to be added to the design after the dress was completed. It might be that this short sleeve design was thought to not be keeping with the times, so the long sleeves were added.
The skirt of this gown is made of a wonderful satin or silk with woven flower patterns.
Against the fashion of the time, and against any other dress in the movie, the waist is really the waist on this dress, and not set just below the waist, at the empire waist. Not even the skirt and "blouse" top meet in the usual empire positions.  Even the belt is where it would be in our times.
The embroidery on the sleeves, the top and neckline are very remarkable. These golden embroideries are hard, if not impossible to copy.  Another interesting fact is that the movie costume and the dress shown on exhibitions differ a little within the belt front. the movie dress seems to have a brass buckle, while the one in the exhibitions seems to be overlayed in the fabric of the skirt.
The skirt is ruffled in the front and backside, and the skirt is folded where the bodice meets it.
If you are looking for a copy of this gown, a somewhat expensive piece (around $750), I would reccommend Past and Preasent Creations, which you can find in my links section.
