Flying Dress
The Flying Dress is worn by Rose when in the Church service, during the tour of the ship with Mr. Andrews, during her emotion filled talk with Jack, and while on the bow of the ship, "flying" with Jack!
This dress was recreated from an original which belonged to the wife of the Governer of Pennsylvania, who reportedly had impeckable taste. The original dress was black and white, for the movie, the dress was recreated in navy blue velvet, royal blue satin, and ivory pale cream lace.
This dress is made of four basic parts, a too long velvet blazer which is opened at the front down to the sash which encircles the waist, with a satin collar whose bottom part seems to be some kind of "overskirt" over the satin skirt. The edges of this overskirt have little tassles.

The most remarkable detail is the fact that the cuffs are very interesting in that they are made of three satin bands attached with buttons and the left cuff is made the usual way.
The skirt of this dress is long, made of two layers, is bunched on the front right side nearly up to the knee, below this is a further, tighter layer and furthermore there seems to be at the front under the bunched overskirt and over the tight underskirt a piece of embroidered satin which is embroidered with the same floral designs as the sash.
The sash of satin has two vertical sashs next to the opening of the blazer. These vertical sashs are embroidered with floral designs and attached to the blazer. On the backside the ends of the sash are nearly down to the floor and attached below the back raffle of the top skirt in a bow.
A chemise of antique light cream lace underlayed with satin of the same color is worn below the blazer.

Rose also wears a pair of gloves with this gown that are embroidered with tiny multicolored flowers, a badge sacrf, and a pair of very interesting high-heels.
With this outfit, rose also carries a purse, until she goes out onto the bow, where both her gloves and purse are absent. The scarf she wears with this gown accents the "flying" affect of this gown, while on the bow. Rose also wears her butterfly comb with this gown, until she removes it in preperation to be drawn by Jack.
If you would like a copy of this gown, one of my personal favorites, I would recommend Past and Preasent Creations, or That Sinking Feeling, both can be found in my Links section.
For all of it's wonderful details, this dress is somewhat affordable (around $550) no matter what seamstress you choose!
