My Sinking Coat
26 November 2002, Tracie met with her new embroidery lady this morning. and tells me that this lady is a true gem! She is going to have everything ready for Tracie by the end of next week. This means that she will undoubtedly have the coat done and shipped out during the week of December 9th- 13th. Tracie feels very lucky to have found this lady, she seems to really know her stuff, and Tracie tells me she is "so nice to boot!" Tracie told me, "she also made the comment that she liked your (my) wool better than they used on the Peterman Coat. The Peterman one is almost like a beige pink if that makes sense ?and the weight is more suit like than coat weight. I think you would freeze to death in the Peterman coat. I like yours 100% better color wise and it will look fine." She also told me, "I don't think anyone is going to say, 'Hey that's not the right shade of pink' HEE HEE" I quite agree with her, as I myself have noticed that the Peterman Coat does indeed have a beige cast to it, which I think is a deterant to the coat's potential beauty.

5th December 2002, Tracie told me today Carla (The embroider) has the front collar embroidery design completed, and she is now working on the back collar design which should be ready for Tracie to test this weekend. Tracie has told me, if all goes well, Tracie will have the coat collar completed early next week. Tracie has found some wool which is the exact same thickness and pile as mine, with the only difference being the color, which is more of a raspberry pink which is about two shades darker than mine. This she will use to create a test, which will work better than making a Muslin mock-up, becouse it is the same thickness, etc.
6th December, 2002, Tracie went over and looked at a test swatch of the embroiderys today, and all seems to be going very well. She gave Tracie a test one to take home (which I have uploaded to the left) I want to warn you Tracie tells me this is just the first stage and is not what the final embroidery will look like. She tells me there is still some tweeking to do with the placement and leaves etc...

She also told me as for the border stitch, Carla applied it just to show Tracie,so she could give any comments on the stitch. Tracie loves that she applied it onto red fel, "It shows the embroidery so well." I quite agree, I think the embroidery looks wondeful! She also told me that her embroiderys will never be an exact perfect match to the film coat or Peterman coat, but rather facsimiles, and there will be aspects which are slightly different. The film makers of course have the advantage of using large industrial embroidery machines, while Tracie is using a home embroidery machine, so it is not as exact. She will have to rehoop the design several times to get the whole design, while industrial machines stich out the whole cuff in one shot, as well as the collar etc... Carla expects to have the collar design completed by this weekend.
8th December, 2002, Tracie contacted me today inquireing how I would like her to do to create the buttons. She has not found and braid work ones or soutache covered ones or any decorative fabric ones for that matter, and the Peterman coat's buttons were obviously made to order for the coat. She has found several black decorative buttons that she could use in the correct size however they are not fabric buttons but acrylic or glass. The only fabric ones she could find are covered in satin or velvet. she has toyed with the idea of doing a soutache work on the buttons but that would require her to glue the braid onto the button and Tracie doesn't think that would look too good.
