Step 1: Give your public key to sender.
Sender uses your public key to encrypt the plaintext
Sender gives the ciphertext to you; Use your private key to decrypt the ciphertext
Here are the reasons we need encryption:
It helps protect documents or whatever we need to protect from hackers.
It is easier to handle and has been used for the longest time.
