In this picture, Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve apostles, is betraying Jesus. Once Jesus returned from praying, Judas went up to him and gave him a kiss on the cheek, signaling to the crowd that he was the one that they wanted. After Jesus was taken by the crowd, one of his disciples took one of the soldiers' swords and cut off the soldier’s ear. Jesus replied to them that this event was supposed to happen and to not try to help him. After Judas betrayed Jesus, he realized that what he did was wrong and hung himself in what is now known to be the Field of Blood.
