Greetings traveller and welcome. I am Shade and I am new to the land of Avalon myself but already I am one with the lands I travel. Now I wish to share what I have already learnt with others so that they too may make a new life for themselves in my world...
Avalon : The First Age
The land of Avalon exists in a world very different to our own in which many myths and legends exist as a part of every day life. In the caves and mountains Dragons live and the forests harbour giant spiders along with the common problems of Orc's and the infestation of the land that spreads from the Goblin City. Knights and Rangers patrol the land keeping the peace while Herbalists heal the wounded and cure the sick. The Gods look down on the world with compassionate eyes, assisting even the lowliest man in the smallest quest. Evil also lurks in the land however and Sorcerers, Thieves and Necromancers all terrorise the lives of the Avalonians.  The land of Avalon is inhabited not only by the evil of Goblins and Thieves but also by friendly adventurers seeking wealth, power and fame. The travellers you meet on your journey can be good friends and sometimes you'll find yourself united in a quest with a complete stranger. Your journey in Avalon begins as soon as you set foot outside your home city and as soon as it starts it will not end as long as you choose to prolong it. Good or evil, Avalon is a vast and exciting land and the adventures you can have there are endless whatever path you choose. And that choice is completely up to you...
Concerning Roleplay Gaming...
If you are new to roleplay gaming (or RPG) then you'll want to know what to expect in Avalon. It is simple and very similar to other more common RPGs such as the final fantasy genre. The main difference is that instead of simply selecting your action from an on-screen menu you must progress by typing the action you wish to perform. For example, to travel in a certain direction you must type the direction in which you wish to travel. You can also talk to any of the numerous other players at any time in a similar way. You can buy and sell commodities, potions, weapons and food. Along your journeys you will meet many characters, some will be computer controlled, others will be human players! Whenever you meet someone you can talk to them, trade with them, help them or even ask help of them. The only way to get to grips with Avalon is to truly live the adventure. Once you start playing you'll soon learn the way of the game!
Concerning Avalon...
Avalon is only part of this world but it is the centre of activity. Beyond the eastern shores lay the islands from whence man came and beyond the western shores no man has sailed since the arrival of Count Agamennion thousands of years ago. To the South of the continent of Avalon the oceans hold many secrets, possibly another continent lays hidden there larger even than that of Avalon yet it has never been searched for nor found by chance. To the North of the continent the land slopes steeply up to meet the mountainous ridge of the world's edge. The vale of Azrili, home of the Children of the Sun is believed to be hidden along the northern mountains of the world but none but the Gods can say for sure. The Gods themselves inhabit Mount Olympus in the Southern regions of Avalon. Theirs is the power of life and death, day and night and the endless duty of protecting the Avalonian citizens from the Gods of evil.
Concerning the Cities...
Avalon is home to tens of thousands of mortal citizens inhabiting villages throughout the region. There are three major cities in Avalon however, each of a very different nature. They are named Parrius, Mercinae and Thakria. Parrius is small in comparison to it's rivals and is the youngest city on the continent of Avalon. Parrius was constructed by pirates and their kin for the most part and exists today as a mostly neutral port town on the Eastern coast of Avalon. The blood of pirates still flows in the citizens of Parrius and in many this is obvious but still more Parrians are a pleasant and civil people. To the far west of Parrius and indeed of Avalon itself, Thakria stands tall and proud. Thakria was once known as the City of Miracles when Count Agamennion appeared from the West and aided it's growth. The Count turned to the forces of evil however and much that was made then is now lost to shadow. The City of Miracles faded and darkened while South and East The City of Light continued to brighten as Mercinae grew ever larger. Mercinae is the oldest city of Avalon and it has seen the beginning of many young adventurers as they leave for their first quest. The people of Mercinae are no worse than pleasant and the lowliest hovel of Mercinae succeeds in shaming the Thakrian palace.

Concerning Learning...
It must be understood that there are tens of thousands of inhabitants living in Avalon yet few of these thousands ever leave their home town or city. Avalon is by no means a paradise, even Mercinae has it's troubles. Criminals skulk in the shadowy places and wizards, sorcerors even necromancers plague the lands. It is therefore a risky business travelling away from home and to do so without preparation is like walking into the goblin city blind and unarmed. There are stages of learning in avalon, the academy, the school and the guild. On deciding to become an adventurer or a traveller, you will be enrolled in the academy of your home city. Here you will be taught basic skills including communication and navigation. Once you have passed the eight tasks set for you by the head of your academy you will be ready to enroll at your local school. Schools have several classes, each concentrating on one of the many trades you will later have the opportunity to follow yourself. While at school you will be expected to complete any number of tasks until you are able to graduate, a decision made by the heads of the school after you complete at least one course. After you've graduated both the academy and the school you will be expected to join one of the numerous guilds around Avalon. These range from the honourable guilds of Knights and Rangers to those of Thieves and Sorcerers. The choice is entirely yours but you only get to make it once so choose wisely.
