Sturgis 1999

We had a larger group than in '97 and it was great! Phil and Ros, Scott and Cindy, Teri and myself went by way of motorhome. We met up with some old Houston friends of ours that now live in Wyoming, Tim and Susan.

Pics of some of the street scenes and a ride or two!

We all rode to visit Mt. Rushmore but we never made it. The ride out was excellent and we ending up spending most of the day in Keystone, S.D. conversing and generally enjoying the company. It's not hard to tell from the pics that we were having a great time!

This is the traditional trek to Wyoming on Wednesday of Sturgis Week. Wyoming has a host of things going on in all the small towns, most notably Hulett and Beulah. Hulett is a town of 429 residents and on Wednesday grows to over 100 thousand! They have the annual "Ham & Jam" with great music and plenty of suds flowing. They have a burnout contest at the end of town which usually draws quite a crowd. As always there is plenty of "Wild Life" walking around as can be seen in some of the pics. Set them free, Baby!!

Beulah is the last stop on the way back to Sturgis. They have always been known for their "Street Drags" and we thought we would go give our bikes a try. I was riding the "Bumble Bee" and knew that it had a chance of doing well. When we got to Beulah we were informed by the men in blue that the state had shut down the drags, which was instant disappointment. They did inform us that a gas station on the end of town was having a "burnout" contest and being the pent up boys that we were, we decided to get into the contest. Tim and I were the first to do a tandem burn which the crowd got into and boy did we smok'em. Needless to say, there was alot of smoke and one or two crashes but it was a blast. We ending up doing a three way burn with Tim, Phil and myself. Tim and I pulled off after we were done but Phil decided to take it one step further. Phil ended up being crowned the "King of Beulah" and ended up winning a wopping $2.00 and a round of beers from the station owner. What a prize, huh? Phil did three perfect burn circles and when he stood his bike up his pant leg caught fire! Yes, on fire! We ended up putting his leg out with beer and a few other wet things. It was funny at the time but Phil got some third degree burns out of the deal. Is this guy dedicated or what? You can see the burned britches above! Phil did a great job and deserved to win the crown, he pushed it further than I ever would have and it is going to be neat to put, "Phil *&^%$*# The King of Beulah, Wyoming " on the back of the trailer!
