3.)  THREAD:

Find one 300 yard spool of ALL PURPOSE (mercerized cotton-poly blend) thread in a matching color.
One 300 yard spool should be plenty for one robe.

4.)  STRAIGHT PINS:

You may already have these at home.
You will need them to pin the pattern pieces to the fabric for cutting.
You will need straight pins to hold the fabric pieces together for basting.
You will need them.

Where to shop?

I LOVE VOGUE FABRICS.
There are 3 locations in the Chicagoland area and there are always GREAT BARGAINS on fabrics and they have A LOT to choose from.

I like JoAnn Fabrics.
They often have THE BEST deals on patterns.  ($1 and $2 for pattern sales otherwise the patterns are often 50% off)
Their fabrics are also good, but pricier than Vogue.

Check out your other local fabric places too.
Hancock has a decent selection and even Walmart sometimes has something to work with.

WASH & DRY YOUR FABRIC.

Wash it in cold water/gentle cycle using regular detergent.  Put it in the dryer using heat.
Hopefully, it will look great when you take it out.
This will also be the ultimate test for later, after you have worn your robe a lot and it has become very dirty, you will be able to wash and dry it with complete confidence that the robe will not be totally ruined when you wash it.

READ THE PATTERN DIRECTIONS.

Become familiar with the construction steps.  Pattern placement, cutting instructions.......
It might not make a whole lot of sense at first, but it will all seem perfectly logical once you do the actual construction.

-- SEWING TOOLS--

You  will need several  things to be able to make robes:

-A sewing machine
-A steam iron
-An  ironing board
-SHARP scissors for fabric cutting
-Large flat surfaces for laying out fabric & cutting
-tables & soft-bottomed (trust me) chairs for sewing

You will need to iron both their material and their pattern pieces FLAT before cutting.
The pattern tissue can be ironed without using steam.
Rough-cut the pattern tissue pieces that are necessary for the project.
They will be cut cleanly once you cut out the fabric pieces.
The fabric also needs to be ironed flat so the pieces can be cut out precisely.
I have several Jedi Robes in various sizes completed at this time.  Please email me if you are interested in learning more details.
