RESEARCH

2002–current          VRISD – Visual Reinforcement Infant Speech Discrimination (University of Colorado)
·                            Overall Goal: Develop an effective, reliable technique for assessing speech perception in infants and toddlers with hearing loss for use in both research and clinic.
·                            Uses/Benefits:
        • Learn more about the auditory and linguistic development of infants with hearing loss
        • Improve hearing aid and cochlear implant technology for infants
        • Assess and improve habilitation (i.e., therapy) techniques for infants with hearing loss
        • Learn more about the psychoacoustic/neurological properties of hard of hearing babies’ auditory systems
        • Improve and individualize the fitting/programming of hearing aids through speech discrimination testing of infants in the clinic
        • Help assess cochlear implant candidacy in infants
        • Assist in adjustment of cochlear implant maps
        • Monitor therapy progress of individual infants

2001 – 2002                 Newborn Hearing Screening (St. Louis Children’s Hospital)

      • Recruit subjects
      • Train other research personnel in use of device
      • Test subjects
      • Develop data tracking forms
      • Statistical analysis of data

2001                       Otoreflectance (St. Louis Children’s Hospital)
·                           Work with Welch-Allen to investigate otoreflectance and middle ear infections

1996-1998             Central Auditory Processing (University of WisconsinStevens Point)
·                           Investigate central auditory processing abilities in normal hearing adults
·                           Collect normative data on elderly adults
·                           Explore hypothesized impact of musical ability on performance of perception of dichotic chords task
