TODAY ... AND FOR THE REST OF OUR LIVES

by T'Lin -- 0310.06

As the sun rose, a golden light infused the room where Leonard and Spock lay.

Spock, as was his custom, had awoken early, and lay on his side, watching his husband sleep. There was a smile on his face, albeit a small one ... one reserved for Leonard, and no one else.

It was a smile of joy and wonder; happiness and awe; and yes, it was a smile of love. A love that blossomed in the aftermath of Spock's death and rebirth on Genesis; a love that had smoldered for years before that fateful day; a love that they openly acknowledged before all their friends twenty-five years ago today, when they were joined in marriage.

When they chose to marry, they had known their life together may be a short one. After all, Leonard was not a young man by human standards, and there was no telling what the Genesis Effect would do to Spock's life expectancy. But none of that mattered. They vowed to make the most of the time they were given.

Spock never imagined that they would have twenty-five years together.

As he watched Leonard sleep, he thought back on those years. They had been difficult, at times, but worth the effort. Spock especially valued the times when they worked side by side, as doctor and scientist, solving a crisis or saving lives. These occasions invariably resulted in heated discussions, which many took to be arguments, that were an invaluable part of the problem-solving equation. Each, without the other, would never have discovered the answers to many of these situations alone. In work, as in love, they complimented each other, and were only whole when they were together.

Of course, there were also difficult times ... times when death or illness threatened to strain their relationship.

On of their most trying times was when Jim Kirk was lost, and presumed dead. Both Spock and McCoy had demons they had to cope with, not the least of which was guilt over not being there with him. They put their own lives on hold for a time, pursuing every possible avenue, in the hope of finding their friend alive and well. Eventually, they came to terms with Kirk's loss, and even admitted outwardly that he was most likely dead ... but deep down, neither one really accepted or truly believed it.

In a way, it was Amanda's death that made them come to terms with Kirk's. Nearly a year of their lives had been spent searching for their lost friend ... a year that could never be replaced. During that time, Amanda had grown weaker, until at last, Sarek had contacted Spock, summoning him home before she died.

They arrived in time to see her, but just barely ... and for the next few weeks, Spock had to help his father cope with her death. Spock tried to be strong, but Leonard knew that the death of his mother was taking its toll on him nearly as much as it was on Sarek.

What Leonard hadn't realized, or perhaps he had, but chose to ignore, was that Spock saw his own future reflected in his father's eyes. In any case, Leonard refused to allow him to dwell on the past ... with love and compassion, he cut through the despondency that had settled over the household, and made both father and son see that they had to move on with their lives ... Amanda wouldn't want it any other way.

Months later, when word came that Scotty's ship had never arrived at its destination, it was Spock's turn to console a distressed McCoy. Spock had been unaware of any deep affection between the two, so Leonard's sadness at the loss came as a surprise. It was then that Leonard told Spock about what happened to him in the mirror universe, as well as what happened to Scotty over there, and how the two of them had gotten very close, helping each other cope. Their romance may have been short lived, but it was very intense, emotionally.

Spock was still in awe over Leonard's ability to shield something of that magnitude from him. Mind-rape was the most heinous offense among his people, and for Leonard to be able to trust him enough to bond with him after such an attack, and still keep him from discovering the truth, took great courage, not to mention immense mental control. But then, the disastrous attempt to place his katra in Leonard's mind upon his imminent death should have been enough to scare him away from ever wanting to meld ... Spock smiled as he silently thanked Leonard for his never ending courage.

But by far the most difficult time for both of them came when Leonard's health began to fail. They never gave up, however. For all of McCoy's protestations of being a 'simple country doctor', he never failed to search for the most up-to-date methods of saving lives ... including his own. That included trying experimental procedures, if necessary. That is why today, at eighty-three years old, he has had nearly every vital organ replaced with his own cloned replacement parts. He may joke about having the body of an old man with the heart of a teenager, but in his case, it is the truth.

One of McCoy's colleagues asked him not long ago why he didn't undergo rejuvenation therapy to make himself look younger, as well -- he pointed to his face and body and said simply that he had earned every one of those wrinkles, and was not about to give them up. Besides, he didn't want people thinking that Spock had robbed the cradle.

Spock was looking at that eighty-three-year-old body now -- in sleep, he looked twenty years younger -- and with his new knees and hips, not to mention organs, Spock knew that the man he was looking at would live a great many more years. For that, he is eternally grateful, for he cannot imagine his life without him.

As Spock's smile widens, so does the one on his sleeping lover. There is the tell-tale eye flutter, and Spock knows that Leonard is dreaming. Spock has been shielding his thoughts from Leonard to this point, for he does not wish to wake him, but now he opens the bond slightly to see what has brought a smile to his lover's face.

At the first touch of minds, the full flush of arousal hits him, and he glances down Leonard's body. The tenting of the sheet confirms that mind and body are in sync, and Spock's responds in kind. The dream, at this point, consists of tender touching, and light kisses ... Spock mirrors the dream lover's actions as lightly as possible, enhancing them without waking Leonard.

Spock's fingertips tease along Leonard's ribs and across his abdomen, while his tongue lightly encircles the tightening nub of one nipple, then the other. Out of the corner of his eye, he can see the sheet-covered erection twitch with need, and he runs a single finger lightly up the shaft, around the head, and down the other side. Leonard moans slightly, moving his hips in an attempt to increase the stimulation.

Spock, of course, is more than willing to comply. With the sheet still in place, he takes hold of Leonard's erection with two fingers and his thumb, applying gentle pressure as he moves from base to tip and down again -- his other hand fondling a hardening nipple as his tongue playfully darts in and out of his navel.

Leonard's breathing grows faster, and Spock knows that he is waking. As the sheet covering his erection grown damp, Spock eases up on his ministration, not wanting this encounter to end too soon. But as he does, his lover says, "God damn it, Spock, don't stop now," and thrusts his hips upward, forcing his cock into Spock's hand.

But Spock has other plans. He releases the straining erection as he kisses his way up Leonard's body ... when he reaches his lover's mouth, he kisses him with all the passion he possesses. By now, their bond is fully opened, and the love they share this day -- the love they've shared for the past twenty-five years -- nearly overwhelms them.

Every expression of their love has been magnified ten-fold through their meld; the intensity of their orgasm reverberates back and forth across the bond, renewing their arousal, and bringing release over and over again.

When at last they release one another, they lay back, breathing heavily. Spock is the first to recover, as he rolls over onto his side and lightly touches Leonard's cheek, saying, "Happy Anniversary, T'hy'la ... and thank you for the past twenty-five years."

At Spock's touch, a shiver of arousal goes through Leonard, and he smiles, saying, "Happy Anniversary to you, too, my love ... and may the *next* twenty-five years be as wonderful as the last." He then turns onto his side as well, so they are facing one another, adding as he caresses Spock's delicately pointed ear, "And do me a favor ... don't wait another twenty-five years before you do to me what you just did ... at one hundred and eight, I doubt I'd live through it."

Spock smiles his private smile, as he says, "Neither would I, I fear," and he leans forward and kisses his partner. As their bodies come together, so do their minds, and another bout of intense orgasms ensue. It is mid morning by the time they emerge from their bedchamber, only to renew their lovemaking in the shower.

When at last they dress for the day, they discover several messages waiting for their attention. Leonard sits back, as Spock pours them each a glass of champagne, then offers him a bowl of fresh strawberries. They click their glasses in a silent toast, as Spock touches the replay button.

One after another -- Uhura, Christine, Hikaru and Pavel, Janice, Saavik, and Joanna -- dozens more, all with the same theme:

Happy Twenty-fifth Anniversary!

Happy anniversary to you, Dr. Leonard McCoy and to you Mr. Spock
It is an honor to know you, to see your love and union
From the seed of friendship germinating into more
Taking root in both of you and at first so seemingly fragile
Watered with each conversation and each touch
Tested with each adversity, each argument, each crisis
Growing stronger as you leaned upon each other
Learned more about each other
And your lover grew into something strong and beautiful.
Each time I saw you, your love seemed to blossom anew
Sometimes with white flowers of joy as you looked in each others eyes
Faces bright with happiness
Sometimes with the pale yellow of quiet contentment,
As you just sat together, keeping company
Sometimes with bright red as passion flared between you
Of sudden anger or of desperate lust
Sometimes with the midnight blue of grief
Wrapping around one or both of you
Sometimes with the shiny emerald green of hope
Helping you to hold onto your love
I am very glad to have seen your love grow
Through the many years,
Glad that it flourishes now
Glad that I will be privileged to see it in the years to come
As you continue your journey together
And know that you will cherish all the different blossoms
That your life together will bring you
As you grow into love.

Hikaru Sulu.

Qzee's concept of Hikaru's message to the two of them. My thanks to her for allowing me to include it here.
