0.0  Warning

This guide contains spoilers for the game Silent Hill 3. It is highly suggested that you play the game through three times, getting all of the endings, before you read this guide. I am not to be held responsible for anything that happens when you read this.

0.1  Version History

This is version 1.0 of the Toluca Lake Resort Town Official FastGuide for Silent Hill 3. This is the rough version of the guide. As it say above, only certain things are mentioned in this. Even if the list above look long, this is only handful of the things I could say about this game. So, this section of the guide is kinda pointless to have for now.

0.2  ESRB Rating Information/Pepe Rating

This game is rated M for Mature by the ESRB (Entertainment Software Rating Board) for the following reasons mentioned in order of box appearance:

Blood and Gore
Violence

Pepe’s Rating:

I agree with the ESRB, but there is also some Language and a few hints of sexual content. This is the unofficial rating of Silent Hill 3.

1.0  Story

It’s been seventeen years since Harry Mason has left Silent Hill with the infant girl in his arms. The Order has yet to leave him alone, which ended up in him murdering one that was assaulting him. Being ruled as self-defense, Harry went and changed his and Cheryl’s names. Now, Heather Morris calls her father from the mall, saying that she’s coming home. But, a strange old man starts to follow her, saying he’s a detective hired by someone to talk about her birth. She threatens to scream as he follows her to the restroom, and he promises to wait outside. She jumps through the window…and into hell.

“They’ve come to witness the beginning. The rebirth of paradise, despoiled by mankind.”

1.2  Weapons

=WEAPON BASICS=

Weapons are used to fight off the monsters that roam freely in the game. There are not that many weapons in the game that can really hurt something. But, there are ways to tell if it should be used. There are obvious things, such as the pocket knife is not the best weapon to use on bosses.

Also, melee weapons appear to have attacks that can do combos of three hits. A good idea if you need to get past something, but kinda pointless when it comes down to it. Instead, do two attacks, wait a beat, then do two attacks again to get the most out of it.

There are three classes of weapons in the Silent Hill game series. They are as follows with the right weapons found in it by order of appearance.

=MELEE WEAPONS=

The Melee Class of weapons use no type of ammunition and use more stamina then the firearms. Of course, they have more types of attacks then the firearms. There are four melee weapons in Silent Hill 3. They are found before you reach the city of Silent Hill, so expect to be ready for anything in case you get a little to triger-happy in the early part of the game.

-Pocket Knife-
Location: Have at Start
Attack Variations: Two + One Combo
Use On: Numb Bodies, Double Heads

This is the first weapon you get when you start a new game (not including the Nightmare). This is a pocket knife that Heather’s father gave to her in self-defense some time after being attacked by a member of The Order. Against most monsters, it’s pretty useless. It will work on Numb Bodies and the Double Heads if at the right angle. You’ll forget about it after time.

-Rusted Pipe-
Location: Café Turn Mill (Alternate Shopping Mall)
Attack Variations: Two + One Combo
Use: Numb Bodies, Double Heads, Closers, Nurses

This is the one weapon that has remind a constant ally throughout the Silent Hill series. It’s a three-foot pipe that can be used to kill monsters with ease. It has the same basic attacks as the pocket knife, but hits harder. This means you can fight more monsters with it. This is extremely helpful with the Nurses that you encounter near the end of the game, as long as they don’t have a revolver.

-Maul-
Location: Workers Locker Room (Underground Passage)
Attack Variations: Three
Use: Numb Bodies, Double Heads, Closers, Cancers, Slurppers, Nurses

This heavy weapon is the strongest melee weapon in the game. It is a pain to use, hard to aim with, and fast to kill the monster that gets hit by it. It can also hurt monsters that are next to you when you are surrounded, since they will most likely get hit by the handle as well. Don’t overuse it, since it will drain you stamina very fast, noted by the slight scream Heather gives after five or so attacks with it in a row.

-Katana-
Location: Arts Museum Store Room (Hilltop Center)
Attack Variations: Three + One Combo
Use: Anything that Moves

Even though some will say that I just make this seem like a bad ass weapon because of my extreme love for Katanas (see my profile picture), this is a great weapon in the game. It never has a recoil when you hit an enemy, rarely has one when you hit a wall, and you seem to become better and better with it after so many hits. It’s also one of the easiest to use. Don’t miss this weapon. Not only is it good, but it is a real help during the boss fights after you get it and a few things near the end of the game.

=FIREARMS=

The Firearms Class of weapons are guns that shoot bullets (duh) that have little to perfect stopping power. Ammo is always scarce depending on what difficulty level you are playing on (described later). Remember that not one firearm is superior over the other. Once you find the shotgun, you will still use the handgun on things. So don’t expect to use one gun throughout the game.

-Handgun-
Location: First Store you enter (Normal Shopping Mall)
Clip Size: 10
Use: Numb Bodies, Double Heads, Pendulums, Closers, Nurses

This is you basic handgun. It has a ten shot clip and has some stopping power, but not much. Still, it’s better the nothing. It’s uses will help you till you find something better, and will also help you if you run short on ammo for another gun. Still, it’s no need to hoard ammo for the gun, since it will be of little help for you late in the game.

-Shotgun-
Location: Subway Car near Cancer (Subway)
Clip Size: 6
Use: Anything that Moves

This is the firearm comparison to the Katana. It holds six shells and each shell has eighteen pellets. If you get right in a monsters face and shoot it with this, it will most likely stay down. Or, shoot a mass of monster and watch them fall. this is the best weapon to use against the nurse, slupper, and scrapper monsters that you encounter throughout the game. Ammo for this is kind of scares, so use the handgun for a while after finding this weapon.

-Stun Gun-
Location: Heather’s Dresser (Apartment in Heather’s Room)
Clip Size: 4
Use: Anything…if you dare

A new addition to the Silent Hill series is the stun gun. While this may not be the best thing to use, it will stop an enemy for a few moments, allowing you to kill it or get away. It seems to work the best on humanoid monsters, unlike the other, stranger, monsters that you will fight.

-Uzi-
Location: Basement of Brookhaven Hospital (Normal)
Clip: 32
Use: Depends on your experience

Well, instead of the usual hunting rifle, you pick up the Uzi. While most would be happy to see an automatic weapon in the game, is was overrated. The Uzi is a pain in the ass to use, and there are only three 32-round clips in the entire game! Still, if you know what you’re doing, it is a great weapon.

=Bonus Weapons=

What would Silent Hill be without unlockable weapons? All of the weapons are found inside the normal shopping mall, so you can have quite and arsenal at the start!-

-Uzi w/ Unlimited Ammo-
Location: Outside Woman’s Restroom at start of game
Clip Size: Look up “Unlimited” in a dictionary
Use: Anything that can be killed

This is the same as the Uzi, but you will never run out of ammo!

-Beam Saber-
Location: Replace door knob near room with the tongs
Attack Variations: Three + One Combo
Use: Anything

This is like the Katana, only stronger and emits it’s own light. Will be turned off if you are attacked while it is on, since you will let go of the switch.

-Flamethrower-
Location: Bakery on the counter (don’t forget to read the memo)
Clip Size: Infinite
Use: Roasting all monsters to a golden crisp

Crispy toasted dead right to your front door!

-Health Drink-
Location: All over the game
Amount of Health: 25%

The most basic health item in the game is the Health Drink. These are found all over and give you back 25% of your health.

-Medi Kit-
Location: All over the game
Amount of Health: 50%

This is not as common as the Health Drink, but will get you around when you are badly wounded. The will give you back 50% of your health. Try to save them for early boss fights or areas where you need to have a lot a health on hand.

-Ampoule-
Locations: Hidden throughout the game
Amount of Health: 99% + invincible for short time

This is the rarest of the medical items. Taking this will increase your health to 100% and you will be invincible for about a minute. You also will not lose any stamina for about three minutes. Try and save these for the last two boss in the game.

=Weapon Items=
There are several types of weapon-related items in the game.

-Handgun Bullets-
Location: All through the game
Amount per Box: 10

These are the bullets you load into your handgun.

-Shotgun Shells-
Location: After the Subway

These are the shells you load into your shotgun.

-Stun Gun Batteries-

Amount per Battery: 4

These are the batteries you replace in your stun gun.

-Uzi Bullets-

These are the clips you load into your Uzi.

-Silencer-
Location: Building near hole with mattress (must break wall with melee weapon)
Use on: Handgun and Uzi

This is a silencer for the handgun and Uzi. It’s a salute to the Metal Gear Solid series.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1.4  Enemies

Well, there are two types of enemies in Silent Hill 3, monsters and bosses, that you must face. They are strong and weak, so don’t think one strategy is going to work all the way through the game, short of killing them. And even then, that may be impossible.

=Monsters=

These are the normal types of enemies in a Silent Hill game. They start out weak, but will soon get so strong that running is the only real way to survive. They are mentioned in order of appearance (not including the Nightmare that Heather has at the start of the game. They will be listed only.

Double Head
Numb Body
Closer
Pendulum
Insane Cancer
Slupper
Nurse
Scrapepr

=Bosses=

In most areas, you will need to fight a large monster to continue. These large monsters have tons of health and are not as easy to kill as one would think…or hope.

-Split Worm-
Location: End of Alternate Mall
Best Weapon: Handgun

This large worm-like monster that you face at the end of the alternate shopping mall will easy kill you if you are not careful. Rather it bites you, hits you, or performs it’s deadly earthquake attack on you, you will want to kill it first.

-Missionary-
Location: Apartment Roof
Best Weapon: Shotgun or Katana

This almost humanoid monster wields two large spear-type weapons, capable of killing you quickly. Only quick wits and a quick trigger-finger will keep you alive to continue to the city of Silent Hill and get revenge for your father Harry.

-Leonard-
Location: Alternate Hospital Ward C4
Best Weapon: Shotgun

This humanoid monster appears to have it’s flesh melting off as you progress. Instead of hands, it has large spears in it’s place. Taking refuge in the waters of it’s lair, it dodges bullets that are fires at it. Yet, when he comes up, he is very vulnerable.

-Alissa-
Location: Caracal inside Amusement Park
Best Weapons: Handgun and Katana

Your former self has stepped in to try and make sure the thing she died for never happens. She come dressed in your same outfit and fights you to the death. You will have to face her several times, each time her weaponry getting stronger and stronger.

-The “God”-
Location: Under the Church
Best Weapons: Handgun and Katana

The “God” was born, but not by you. Now, you must stop it from becoming stronger. This is it, your final battle. How will it end?
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.0  Tips

-Stealth and Safety-
Once you get the Silencer, you can basically stay hidden from monsters and safe from them by turning off your flashlight, equipping the Silencer on the handgun, then equipping the Bullet-Proof Vest. The monsters will not see you and there damage will be cut by half. However, this is not the best way to go. If you have the light off, then you can wonder into a void and fall to your death, or not be able to get what you need from a specific area, and not be able to check your location on the map. And, if you get in more trouble then you can handle, the Vest will only slow you down.

-DO NOT GO Hoarding Ammo-
It’s one thing to conserve ammo when you get a new gun. But, don’t just collect ammo and never use the gun. You will have more ammo then you will ever use. Unless you want THE PERFECT score, don’t grab the gun and ammo if you plan to use melee weapons for the whole game. The only possible exception is the shotgun, since it will be more useful later in the game then when you pick it up.

-Use the Three Game Basic Items-
Konami gave you the Map, Radio, and Flashlight for a good reason, so use them. Though the Flashlight helps the enemies spot you faster, you need it to get some very basic stuff so you can get out of each area. The Map is needed to know where you are and where you have been, as well as some key things of importance. As for the Radio, well, without it, monsters could just sneak up on you as the please. You have these things for a reason, so use them.

-Leave to Uzi…or Pick it Up…That is the Question.-
Well, the Uzi was not the greatest gun in Silent Hill 3. Taking the place of the Hunting Rifle, this Mac 11 Ingram was more of a pain in the neck. Even on easy, there are only three clips of ammo in the game. Six, if you met the requirements mentioned a bit earlier. Say you did not met them, so you have only three clips of ammo. That’s a whooping 96 bullets. Once you waste about one clip trying to figure out how to use it and end up killing only one monster, you have 64 bullets left for the rest of the game. Now, if you know how to use it from the Nightmare part of the game, then your set.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.1  Tricks

-Easy Way to Beat HARD MODE and EXTREME MODES-
That’s right, you heard me. Once you beat the game, you can set to amount of ammo you get per box to double on the first game beat, then triple, and so on to NINE TIME the normal amount of ammo. That’s 90 handgun bullets, 54 shotgun shells, 36 stun gun shots, and 288 Uzi bullets…PER AMMO PICK UP! You will be able to zip past anything that gets in your way with odds like that on you side.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.2  Cheats

Must remember to get guide back from Justin…
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.3  Easter Eggs

An “Easter Egg” is something that programmers like to put in as jokes, humor, salutes, and inside jokes for fans of the series. Some you can get the first time through, others you need to wait, and some you need to have save files from other games to get to work!

-Heather’s Panties-
Well, this is not really an Easter Egg, but more of a glitch, sort of. After you beat the game once, enter the code for the Princess Heart costume to get it when you continue with a new game. During the game, there are certain parts that the dress will fly up, allowing players to see her panties. Since it was programmed this way, though, it must be an Easter Egg, a rather perverted one.

-Snake! Snake! SNAKE!!!-
The Silencer and the dude in the wall are a salute to Hideo Kojima’s masterpiece game series, Metal Gear, made by Konami of Japan. And as a salute to Silent Hill 3, artwork from the Church are found in the library inside one of the bases in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

-“Douglas, you pervert, do I need to scream!”-
After beating the game once, enter CODE on the main menu. You will hear Heather sigh, then be able to select a new game as usual. But, Douglas refuse to put on anymore clothes then his boxers, tie, and trench coat. Proof that he was some sick old pervert who lost a beat.

-“No letters from some child or my dead wife, of witch I have none.”-
If you have a save file of a complete game for Silent Hill 2/Restless Dreams on your memory card, some funny tidbits of the game are mentioned.
*Inside the Woman’s Restroom where Heather started the game (Alternate Shopping Mall), there is a toilet that is backed up, and Heather ask if she should investigate it. Say yes, and a bonus scene will play where she is about to stick her hand in the toilet. She pulls it back quickly, saying anyone that does that is sick and crazy (James did it).
*Inside you apartment, check the mail boxes for bonus text to show, where Heather says that she has no letter from a dead wife, which she does not have (James got a letter from his dead wife).
*Inside Heaven’s Nights, there is a pamphlet about the city of Silent Hill laying on the table by the striptease pole (James read one). There is also a poster of Maria next to the striptease pole, but that’s there to begin with, and you don’t need to have a save file to see it.
*On the roof of the hospital (Normal Hospital), there is a fence that will play some bonus text, where Heather says it looks like nothing could get through it (James was shoved through it).
*All will show after beating the game three times*
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.4  Rumors

Some people will most likely say that these are all lies that I made up to get hits, since the “Naked Heather Patch” mentioned below will pick up in a search engine. Well, all of the things below are items that I have heard of or people have told me. I’ve looked into them and came up with they are either rumor or fact.

-The Naked Heather Patch-
I will say this once, and only once. THERE IS NO DAMN CODE OR PATCH TO SEE HEATHER FUCKING NAKED!!! This rumor is as dead as the third ending in the US version of Metal Gear Solid. As for the PC version of Silent Hill 3, who knows. If you can find a patch or something, fine, yet me know. I’ll check it out and see if it’s true. But as of know, no, this is not true.

Rumor or Fact: Rumor

-Heaven’s Nights Magazine-
*Bangs head into keyboard* Look at what it says above about the Naked Heather Patch. You can guess my answer. But, I’ll take a moment to mention this. There is supposedly a magazine, or book, or something inside the Heaven’s Night strip club that has pictures of all the female characters nude in reviling positions, including rough ideas for Ellen and Cynthia from Silent Hill 4. Since four of those pictures would be against the law due to Child Pornography, this is DEFIANTLY not true.

Rumor or Fact: Rumor

-Every Weapon Unlocked in Nightmare-
Well, this is true, but ONLY if you have the PC version of the game. You have every weapon in the game at the start of the nightmare, so you can play-test everything before the actual game, since if you die in the nightmare, you wake up and start the game.

Rumor or Fact: Fact

-Fourth Ending-
Well, this one is a bit more thought out, since it made me waste an entire month to see if it was true. Supposedly, if you beat EXTREME MODE X, you get another ending, this one making more since then the other three. Well, I have yet to beat the game on EXTREME MODE X. Alissa keeps killing me before I can kill her. I don’t know if this is true or a lie. I have a feeling it is a lie, but if you know, send me an e-mail to get full credit on this part. Otherwise, don’t expect me to know for a while.

Rumor or Fact: Yet to be answered…

-Skip the Game-
If you have a cheat device, you are supposedly able to skip to the end of the game in the Nightmare by using the key to go and turn of the roller coaster. Well, I bought a codebreaker to test this, and believe it or not, it worked…till you jump off the tracks. Since the Nightmare is supposed to end with heather being killed and the real game starting, the disc cannot read it right. The screen will load and then stop.

Rumor of Fact: Rumor

=Song Lyrics=

-You’re not Here-
Blue sky to forever
Green grass blows in the wind, dancing
It would be a much better sight,
With you, With me.

If you hadn't met me
I'd be fine on my own, baby
Never felt so lonely then you came along

So now what should I do?
I'm strung out addicted to you
My body aches now that you're gone
My supply fell through

You gladly gave me everything you had and more
You craved my happiness,
When you made me feel joy it made you smile
But now I feel your stress.
Love was never meant to be such a crazy affair, no?
And who has time for tears?
I never thought I'd sit around and cry for your love,
'till now...

Oh I feel your stress
Come on,
Oh, who has time for tears?
Oh, my baby
Yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
I feel your stress

-Letter - From the Lost Days-
A letter to my future-self
Am I still happy? I began,
Have I grown up pretty?
Is daddy still a good man?
Am I still friends with Coleen?
I'm sure that I'm still laughing...
Aren't I?
Aren't I?

Hey there to my future-self
If you forget how to smile
I have this to tell you
Remember it once in awhile
Ten years ago your past-self
Prayed for your happiness,
Please don't lose hope.

Oh, oh what a pair, me and you
Put here to feel joy, nothing blue
Sad times, and bad times, see them through
Soon we will know if it's for real
What we both feel...

Though I can't know for sure
How things worked out for us,
No matter how hard it gets
You have to realize: we weren't put on this earth
To suffer and cry
We were made for being happy-
So...be happy...For me. For you...
Please...

Oh, oh what a pair, me and you
Put here to feel joy, nothing blue
Sad times, and bad times, see them through
Soon we will know if it's for real
What we both feel...

We were put here on this earth. Put here to feel joy.
We were put here on this earth. Put here to feel joy.
We were put here on this earth. Put here to feel joy.
We were put here on this earth. Put here to feel joy.

-I Want Love-
I want a river full of love
I need an ocean full of love

I want a cup that overflows with love
Although it's not enough to fill my heart

I want a barrel full of love
Although I know it's not enough to fill my heart

I want a river full of love
But then I know the holes will still remain

I need an ocean full of love
Although I know the holes will still remain

-Hometown-

He spoke of tortured souls,
So outrageous the toll
You can lose all you have
He refused to give in,
To the town that takes all.
Survive you must have the will
This movie doesn't end the way we want,
All the time Then he shouts at the moon.
"She's gone!" and fear has overcome.

He was walking the mile
He was walking alone...

So outrageous the toll
You can lose all you have
He refused to give in
To the town that takes all.
Survive you must have the will
This movie doesn't end the way we want,
All the time Then he shouts at the moon.
"She's Gone!" and fear has overcome.

He was walking the mile
He was walking alone

Four and twenty dead birds
They bleed upon the nest
There was no time for reasons
They had no sign of a threat.

Now it's too late
Too late for me,
This town will eventually take me
Too late, too late for me
This town will win.

Through this fog they came along
Dark creatures singing a terrible song
The rest of the bar laughed at him
Only I felt my hope grow dim
They found him dead the very next day
No more stories from him, I heard them say
We blame bad luck, for his fate.
Only I felt terror so great.

She and he will know...
That someday...
All things will end...

That misty night
That dismal moon
The dead search for their kin
While angels sing, in endless dark
The dead seek out sin.

-I Want Love (Studio Remix)-
I want a cup that overflows with love
Although it's not enough to fill my heart

I want a barrel full of love
Although I know it's not enough to fill my heart

I want a river full of love
But then I know the holes will still remain

I need an ocean full of love
I know the holes will still remain

And this Swiss cheese heart knows
Only kindness can fill its holes
I'd love to dry my tears
As pain disappears

I need a miracle and not someone's charity
One drop of love from him and my heart's in ecstasy
The high that is sending me is most likely ending me
I need a miracle and not someone's charity, now

Fill up my heart with love
Oh you'd be amazed at how
Little I need from him
To feel complete here and now
Stirring within me are,
These feelings I can't ignore
I need a miracle and that's what I'm hoping for

I need a miracle and not someone's charity
One drop of love from him and my heart's in ecstasy
The high that is sending me is most likely ending me
I need a miracle and not someone's charity, now

Anybody's love but his
Will never fill this place within...me now
Doctor give me what I need
To free my heart from misery.
