CANDIDATE for Commander Region IV
CW3 SIDNEY H. “SID” SHOWN, USA (Retired)

I announce my candidacy for Commander, MOPH Region IV.  I was Regular Army soldier for 20 years with service in France, Germany, Conus and 2 tours in Vietnam.  I was wounded thru both legs during my second tour in Viet Nam in 1969.  I served in the Logistics and Maintenance field.  I have considerable experience with funding, budgeting, fiscal accounting and property accounting at both Battalion and General Officer Staff level.  I retired from the U. S. Army while serving with the ROTC at Middle Tennessee State University effective 1 November 1979 as a Chief Warrant Officer (W-3).  My military service was from E-1 to E-7 and W-1 to W-3.  I then went on to a second career with the Civil Service from which I retired on 1 March 1998 from the U. S. Property Fiscal Office of the Tennessee Army National Guard with duty in the Purchasing & Contracting Office.

I have served through various elected/appointed offices in both Screaming Eagle Chapter 457, Clarksville Tn and in the Department of Tennessee.  I have also served as Chapter Jr. Vice, Sr. Vice and Commander.  I have served as Department Jr. Vice, Sr. Vice and then as Commander for two Election Years (1999-2000 & 2000-2001).  I am thankful to the members of my Chapter and Department for the opportunity to work for them and to represent them.  I am also currently a member of the United Tennessee Veterans Association Council.

I at my second retirement have dedicated the remainder of my life to the service of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and to the service of the Veterans of the USA.

I have never been one looking to build a resume or searching for awards.  I am like the U. S. Army Mascot, a work mule that knows how to pull in the traces as a member of a team.  My wife and I also work together as a team for the Veterans.  I pledge my total efforts to all members of our organization and to the Veterans of the USA regardless of the outcome of this election.

This position is a serious responsibility that I do not enter in lightly.

I am endorsed and supported by my Department.  I now solicit the support of the Officers and Delegates at this 2001 National Convention for the position of Commander, Region IV.
