OFT 2 - Basic Navigation Simulator 2

DISCUSS ITEMS

A.  Attitude Gyro

      - A primary scan instrument for instrument flight

B.      Instrument Lag

      - Your VSI will lag a little, do not overcorrect for its indications

      - Your TACAN and CDI will lag, so lead your turns and corrections accordingly

C.  Missed Approach Procedures

Missed Approach Brief

- Initiated after completion of the Landing Checklist and prior to the MAP

1. Point at which to execute the missed approach

2. First heading

3. First climb altitude

 At Missed Approach Point

1. Ask if the runway is in sight, if it is not, execute missed approach

2. Direct a climb and heading as briefed

3. Remember to instruct the pilot to raise the gear

4. Contact tower, let them know that the field is not in sight and request to either proceed to your alternate or make another approach (if practice approaches/ and field was in sight)

D.  DRAFT Report

- The information for the DRAFT is taken from the bottom section of your jet card

- It is given to the pilot at the end of the descent checklist if they want it

- It is given to the controller when the pilot feels it is likely that you will have to proceed to your alternate or may have to execute a missed approach

Descent Checklist

- Ask the Instructor if they require a DRAFT report

6. “DRAFT” ------------------------------------------------------  If Required, brief alternate

Destination, Route, Altitude, Fuel on board in minutes, and Time enroute

E.   GCA Approaches

- PAR provides the pilot with precise course, glideslope, and range information

- ASR provides only course and range information with recommended altitudes provided each mile on final if the aircrew requests them

- With the failure of your Attitude Gyro, the no-gyro approach is available

- On a precision approach, the transition to the final approach course is directed by the controller with heading and altitude changes

- Turns and descents should be initiated immediately after instructions are received

- Keep transmissions brief and specific

- Repeat all required information until told to no longer do so

- Outside Final Approach Fix, turns are standard rate

- Inside Final Approach Fix, turns are half standard rate

Downwind Leg

1. Give Approach Brief

2. Receive Missed Approach Instructions

3. Receive Lost Communications Instructions

 Base Leg

1. Initiate airspeed reduction, lower gear, and start Landing Checklist when within 8-13 DME and 30 Radials of final approach course

 Final Approach

1. Give Missed Approach Brief

2. Make 200 ft Prior call

3. Make Level Off call at DH/MDA

Approach Brief for a GCA approach:

1. Type of approach (PAR or ASR)

2. Runway to which the approach is being made

3. DH or MDA
