DC Talk stands for "Decent Christian Talk." It is made up of three members: Toby Mac, Michael Tait and Kevin Max. However, there haven't always been three members. When the group first started back in 1989, there was only Toby and Michael. They met at Liberty University in Lynchburg,VA. They formed a group called DC Talk and the One Way Crew. After making some songs they put together a demo tape called "Christian Rhymes to a Rhythm." Later, they added Kevin Max. The three of them made up the group called DC Talk that would soon reach the top of the charts and win many awards.

Not long after the group came together, they signed a contract with Forefront Records. They moved to Nashville, TN. In 1989 they released their first album called "DC Talk." In 1990 they released a second album called "Nu Thang" and also did a Christmas album called "Yo, Ho, Ho!" The group started to become very popular and in 1991 they opened for Michael W. Smith's tour and got a Dove Award. 1992 brought a new hit album called "Free At Last," which became platinum. In 1994 they won a Grammy award for "Best Rock Gospel Album." In 1995 they released another album called "Jesus Freak." This album broke the record for highest first-week sale in the history of Christian music. Along with this album they did an international tour called "The Freakshow."

In 1996 the band decided to sign a deal with Virgin Records and in 1997 released another album, "Supernatural." It went to #4 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart and broke the "highest first-week sale" record that they had set before. Their "Supernatural" tour went to more than 60 US cities.

In 2000 they put together an album called "Intermission: The Greatest Hits." To them, this was a time to pause and reflect on what they had achieved over the decade and think about the future. Trying something new, they decided to go solo. Each of the members produced their own music that showed their individual talents. There have been rumors that they broke up, but that is false. They are still DC Talk! They are just taking a break from the norm. Their first album in 2001 was a collection of songs from each of their solo projects. It is called "DC Talk: Solo." Now all three of their solo projects have been released.

DC Talk continues to produce great music, even as individuals. Their musical style has changed over the years from hip-hop and gradually moved to a more pop/ rock'n'roll sound. They have been a big influence in the music industry and have won many Grammy and Dove awards. Many fans look forward to the future of DC Talk. Along with their great music they faithfully proclaim the message of the Jesus Christ to unsaved generations. We can all thank them for what they have done over the years. What's gonna happen next…
