Dylan: Narcoleptic
So, here we are, with the much debated subject: Is Dylan Narcoleptic?

Well, first of all, lets ask what Narcolepsy is. The Narcolepsy Information Page says this:

Narcolepsy is a chronic neurological disorder caused by the brain's inability to regulate sleep-wake cycles normally. At various times throughout the day, people with narcolepsy experience fleeting urges to sleep. If the urge becomes overwhelming, individuals will fall asleep for periods lasting from a few seconds to several minutes. In rare cases, some people may remain asleep for an hour or longer. In addition to excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS), three other major symptoms frequently characterize narcolepsy: cataplexy, or the sudden loss of voluntary muscle tone; vivid hallucinations during sleep onset or upon awakening; and brief episodes of total paralysis at the beginning or end of sleep. Narcolepsy is not definitively diagnosed in most patients until 10 to 15 years after the first symptoms appear. The cause of narcolepsy remains unknown. It is likely that narcolepsy involves multiple factors interacting to cause neurological dysfunction and sleep disturbances.
Lets break this down and see if they apply to Dylan, shall we?

'At various times throughout the day, people with narcolepsy experience fleeting urges to sleep'
Well, Dylan does want to sleep, alot. And I quote: "I'm a rabbit who sleeps" "I need a siesta" "Lets get some sleep", etc etc. He just LOOKS sleepy constantly, with those half-lidded eyes.

We've all seen Dylan slumped over his guitar, or alseep dangling from the branches of a tree. Look at the mushroom episode, one second he's standing up, the next he's horizontal on the ground and snoring. He stays in such a state for most of the remaining time.

Well, as stated above, Dylan seems to lose the ability to stand (though he HAS slept standing up) most commonly, we see his ears droop, a sure sign he is asleep. They droop so much, they drop over his eyes, there's that loss of muscle tone.
Vivid hallucinations? Dylan hallucinates all the time, especially about mushrooms. Of course, there could be (cough) OTHER reasons for his hallucinations
Total paralysis? Well, not really, no. ALMOST paralysis, but not total.

Interesting. The Narcoleptic Association UK adds another symptom:
'Moments (but sometimes extended periods) of trance-like behaviour in which routine activities are continued on "auto-pilot" (Automatic behaviour).'
I think it's safe to say Dylan spends the time he is not sleeping on 'auto pilot'. Sure, he does have some waking moments, but only a few handfull....and they last around 3 minutes.

Taking all of this into account, I think it's quite safe to say that Dylan is narcoleptic....or I could just be finding excuses for the simple fact he likes to sleep alot. ...... Nah, it's definately the narcolepsy.
