Welcome to The Todd Ward Foundation Web Page |
Todd was born in April of 1995 and it was evident from the start that he was going to be fast and busy. He lived 7 short years but, did quite a bit in that time. At the tender age of 3 years Todd got a cancer known as Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma. He underwent many long procedures and received chemotherapy, radiation and had surgery on more than one occassion. This page is set up in his memory and to bring awareness to all that come by it just what some battles against cancer are really like for these children. The pages that follow will describe some things we went through as well as explain what our foundation is about. All in the memory of a special boy who touched so many lives in such a short time. The Todd Ward Foundation is about helping to bring a smile to a face that knows many sad times. Our hope is to make a difference in a child's life by offering them a small gift of something as simple as a puzzle or something harder for a family to afford like a favourite toy or an item that will bring them some joy. At Sick Children's Hospital in Toronto the age range of children receiving treatment is from birth to 18 years of age. There are times when a child or teen is only allowed to have parents visit because of illness or because they are on the bone marrow unit and may be in isolation. This can be a very depressing and scarey time for them. We would like to make this time as less depressing and more tolerable. Since we can't take the pain and the disease away for them the least we can do is make it more tolerable for them to endure. We'd also like to help those that are going home because there is no more treatment to cure them. It can be very hard on a family as we here at the foundation know first hand. So, if we can provide a way to bring a smile to a child's face then we have accomplished what we set out to do. Todd was granted a toy that he wanted before he died peacefully at home not so long ago. If it wasn't for good friends he wouldn't have gotten his wish. His family could not afford the $150.00 toy he wanted and were thankful for the caring and loving people that were able to provide him with that megazord. With help from all those willing we can make a difference. If you would like to donate an unused item to be distributed to a child or teen in need please feel free to contact us at our e-mail address for more information on how you can. If you have any questions or would like more information on people to contact in York Region for services please feel free to ask and we will certainly help you find answers. If you are going through treatment with a child or have lost a child and would like to communicate with a parent that has gone through treatment with a child and lost a child feel free to contact us and we can put you in touch with Todd's mom who is willing to listen and talk to those that are looking for someone. Sometimes it helps to be able to vent with someone that knows what you are talking about and sometimes you just need to be with someone that knows and not talk about it at all. Just knowing that you can if you need to can make a difference. |
