bout the title: "Oh My Goddess!" is based on the manga series "Aa! Megamisama"
written by Kousuke Fujishima. "Megamisama" means "goddess" and "Aa!" is an expression like
"oh!" or "ah!" The translation for Aa! Megamisamash was named Ah! My Goddess. But when it
came time to do the english version of the anime and manga, Mr.Fujishima was consulted concering
the character names and other matters, he desired the series to be called "Oh My Goddess!"
About the Goddesses: All three Goddesses are based on the Norns from Nordic mythology.
Their original names were Verthandi(Verthande), Urd_Urthr) and Skuld, who were Goddesses of fate.
Each of these Goddesses had their won domian in time. Urd the past, Verthandi the present, and Skuld
the future; the Goddesses of "Oh My Goddess!" have the same domains.
In the original manga series, Verthandi changed into "Berudandi." This happened because there are
no "Ve" or "th" sounds in the Japanese language. Then a romanji(roman alphabet) version of the name was
needed, one that could still be read by a Japanese reader, and "Berudandi" became "Belldandy" when spelt
in English.
Skuld's love of ice cream: There is a reason why Skuld is fond of ice cream but the reason is
only in the manga and not the anime. At one point in the manga, the Goddesses are cut off from the
"Yggdrasil," their control system and power source, and Skuld latches onto ice cream as a substitute energy
source. Also, if you look carefully at the opening credits, you'll see at one point they'll have a bunch
of pictures of characters not seen in the anime, they are in the manga.
Abbreviations: Some people call Oh My Goddess! OMG! for short that is what
OMG! or A!MG(Ah! My Goddess) means incase you dont know
# of Oh My Goddess! anime: There are currently 5 OMG! tapes out there ^_^ They are entitled:(in numerical order) Moonlight and Cherry
Blossoms, Midsummer Night's Dream, Burning Hearts on the Road, Evergreen Holy Night, and For the Love of
Goddess
OMG! Manga: There is also an Oh My Goddess! Manga brought to North America and various other countries by Dark Horse Comics
Get some!! I DO!
Different Drawings: If you noticed that the drawings of the characters in the anime and manga
differ, the reason is because the anime was drawn by Mr.Kousuke Fujishima. Ofcourse, i don't mean that he didn't help with
the animation of the anime at all! Im sure he did a few parts and helped out to make some drawings better. For more
information please go here. Kousuke draws the monthly manga of OMG! that gets published in a Magazine in Japan, I do not know the reason why he did not anime the anime so don't ask me.
Spelling: I do not have a clue how to properly spell Mr.Kousuke/Kosuke Fujishima's name. In the Manga, it is spelled
Kosuke, but in the anime it is spelled Kousuke! Someone please help me out!
Family names: If you watched the Oh My Goddess! anime or read the manga, you are probably wondering why they call each other
by their last names or in the subtitled version of Oh My Goddess! at the ending credits or beginning ones,
you'll see that they put sur name infront of of the first name. That is the way Asian culture says and spells
their names, by putting the family name infront of the first name. the family name is very inportant.
If you've seen the OMG! anime you'll see that Keiichi calls Tamiya and Ootaki "Sempai" if you are wondering
the word "Sempai" is japanese for "a social elder" since Tamiya and Ootaki are older than Keiichi he calls
them "Sempai." i believe that it is a sign of respect.
