Leghorns

It is not still not known where the breed originated but they think that it originated in Leghorn Italy. This breed has many variations. We have the rose comb white variety. Ours are "acrobats", they constantly jump out of the run, and dig for bugs. The comb flops over a bit to one side, I call that a beret comb. Leghorns lay one egg almost everyday. Ours only weigh 3 1/2 to 4 pounds, which is why they can jump so high. There weight makes them only good for laying, and are they ever good at that! All Leghorns lay white eggs (yes even brown leghorns). The brown ones are very showy but productive as egg layers as well. Our Leghorns are all white but there is just one or two grey feathers on the neck. Leghorns dont often go broody and wouldn't make good mothers, because of thier size.
