Membership

History: Dai Ichi Bonsai Kai was founded in 1986 by Ms. Leila Kusumi and Mr. Jim Tatsukawa. The club membership includes bonsai artists and enthusiasts from master to novice, young to old, and actively participates in the California bonsai community.

Club Purpose: Dai Ichi Bonsai Kai is a nonprofit organization whose main purpose is to elighten the public about the culture, training, and general information of bonsai. It provides its members with a socially harmonious atmosphere that promotes the growth and mutual understanding of bonsai.

Meetings: Regular club meetings are held on the third Friday of the month at the Ken Nakaoka Community Center, Room A, 1700 West 162nd St., Gardena, California. Meetings begin at 7:00 p.m. and usually feature guest demonstrators who work on a tree of their choice and share their knowledge with the members in attendance.

Special Events: Dai Ichi Bonsai Kai hosts its annual exhibit in May, club picnic in July, and Christmas gathering in December. Members, their families, and honored guests are invited to these events.
