Animation from Japan
Studios in Japan have taken animation to levels that North America has yet to realize. This is because Disney's monopoly here and their restrictive audience focus, does not allow for the elaborate drama, action and creativity that is found in japanese animation, otherwise known as anime.

All the major film genre including tragedy, comedy, romance, horror, science fiction and fantasy are represented in anime. This wide variety of animation styles and genre have put anime on equal par with live action movies in Japan. In fact, the highest grossing films in Japan have been the animated works of Hayao Miyazaki and his Studio Ghibli.

Grave of the Fireflies

Setsuko kneeling

Fireflies is a beautiful portrait of sibling love amidst the turmoil of World War II Japan. With both his parents gone, Seita must protect his little sister Setsuko from the air raids as well as hunger. The children battle adversity with a strength well beyond their years and small glimpses of hope keep them going. But are these small and precious moments enough? This Studio Ghibli production is an excellent example of a serious yet beautiful piece of animation.

The Anime Nausicaars The Nausicaärs
This is my pride an joy on the web. People can enter this site and cast their vote to decide the best titles and characters in anime. The name Nausicaärs is a combination of Nausicaä, one of the most treasured characters in anime history, and the Oscars, the symbol for excellence in film making.
the Collection the Collection
This second project of mine is a collection of high quality anime images that have been gathered together by Geocities members or Geocitizens. Several images about a single character, say Ranma, are grouped onto a single page and Geocitizens can volunteer some of their disk space to host that page. Together, a huge image archive of superior quality images can be held by all the unused space in Geocities.
Queen's Anime Liberation Front Anime Liberation Front
I was the founding vice president of the first anime club in Queen's University. It was fun starting one of the hottest clubs on campus with 200 members in its first year of existence. Our aim was to free anime from many of the stereotypes that had been associated with this art medium and increase its exposure in the Kingston community. I think we've done a great job of that. This is reflected in our club and committee members evolving from an asian male dominated group to a milieu of gender and racial balance over three years.
Trixie Turnpike Anime Web Turnpike
The most comprehensive list of anime sites on the web. This attractive site is the most useful tool for finding sites about a specific anime title or character. There are so many new anime pages that pop up every week that its a wonder that Jay Harvey can maintain this massive project.
Nausicaa.net Nausicaa.net
This is the fan site for the most succesful anime studio in Japan, Studio Ghibli. The site has lots of information on all the artists, directors and films of this studio including Hayao Miyazaki, Nausicaa, Laputa, Kiki's Delivery Service and Totoro.
