Electronics Project - WIT
Built a 30 + 30 watts power amplifier. The symmetrical was traced to a PCB layout, where etching and soldering was done. The project was built together with a VU unit cum 3-way speaker system.

Control/Feedback Project - WMU
A solar sensor with east to west monitoring device using closed loop feedback systems was built. The device detects the movement of light and the rotation of a motor would indicate its movement direction.

Microprocessor Project - WMU
As a final year project, a voice task prompting device for cognitively disable individual was designed, and built. The project involved tedious analog and digital circuitry design, and assembly language coding. In the final product, voice is recorded via built-in microphone, the data (voice) is stored in the chip, then these messages could be played, forwarded, skipped as in CD player), the output is played via a built-in speaker.

I am involved in setting up the department with proper process flow and streamlining the roles and responsibilities of the department to meet the vision of the company to be driven by technology.

• ERP Implementation:  Re-implemented Intentia (Movex) ERP package for merchandising operation. Conducted user requirement study, scoping and pilot-run to implement.
  
  
• CCTV Implementation: To reduce fraud cases and encompass data availability, an integrated web monitoring system was designed and implemented to various store accorss the nation.
  
  
• Retail System: Mapped a thorough business process flow of various departments and processes. Performed scoping and requirement studies. Presented with Gap Analysis. This project is still on going to replace the current JDA Merchandizing System running on AS400.
  
  
• POS System: The Point-Of-Sale system employed was an old IBM cash register. To improve performance and image, a methodical study was performed and successfully rollout new hardware to accommodate for future Retail System upgrade.
  
  
• Infrastructure Upgrade: Implemented new secured firewall, Windows 2003 File Server, Veritas Backup Exec with Advance File Option and IDR, File Server Manager. Also implemented Exchange Server 2003 for messaging system. AVG antivirus was installed for server and clients. Cisco 515E was put in place for VPN connectivity and firewall. All the stores are connected via broadband utilizing VPN connection for file sharing and intranet access. Also implemented VOIP between all Outlets and HQ.

I was entrusted to manage four sections, namely, Warehouse, Purchasing, MAXIMO Systems (ERP-CMMS), and CMS (Crane Monitoring System). I have 12 staffs reporting to me together with 50 indirect staffs.

• Integration of CMS with MAXIMO: Planned and designed the integration for preventive maintenance scheduling. Here the components / parts a given a life cycle (meter reading), as soon it reaches its expiry date, CMS will trigger MAXIMO to generate a planned preventive maintenance (PPM).

MnR Manager – Warehouse and Purchasing – Setup Warehouse workflow and processes, cum Purchasing practice and procedures. Store has 3000 line items amounting RM 6.5 million in value. I was authorized to handle RM450,000 purchases monthly with RM 10,000 approval limit per Purchase Order.

• Inventory Setup: Setup Store receiving and issuing procedures. Installed a quality check and audit for receiving parts and existing parts at Store. Introduced sticker-tracking mechanism for incoming and outgoing parts and to ease warranty claims. New containerized bin racks was introduced to minimize white space and tidy up parts arrangement methodology. With ABC analysis color coding stickers was instituted for moving and non-moving parts.

• Warehouse Renovation: Suggested and renovated warehouse to cater better operations flow for incoming, outgoing, and WIP together with consignment stock.

• Documentation: Introduced daily monitoring stock movement report. Implemented SIR (Stock Item Request) form and procedures. Also implemented COR (Change Order Request), any System (MAXIMO) adjustment pertaining to stock must go through an approval routing. Daily Purchases monitoring was also implemented. Produced SOP for all Warehouse operations.

• Cost Savings: By better sourcing and procurement manage to reduce purchasing pricing by 30%. This was done by open tender, bulk purchases, requesting Vendor to hold the items and also utilizing Online Procurement (reverse bidding).

Systems Integration- Project Manager
1998 (June) - 2002 (June)- Perot Systems Corporation. - Systems and Business Solutions.

I'm involved in various plant floor projects and ERP (Unix/Oracle/QAD) system integration, thus ensuring that the transaction and implementation is done in timely manner and smoothly. Part of the plant floor project involves automating CNCs (LeBlond-Makino) and PLCs (Allen-Bradley) to a client-server database (ORACLE) and as a real-time line control and monitoring systems (SCADA). Thus providing HMI (FASTech-CELLworks) solution and integration (4GL) through a web (Oracle Internet Developer Suite) enabled end-user data enquiry platform. Managing client expectation, scheduling and designing projects with respect to production, engineering and business development has been the crucial part of my job. Successful deployment of manufacturing and business solution with respect to pre-sales, strategic planning, pilot run, training and after sales liaison has been an important part of my duty too. I have had also diagrammed a DRP (Disaster Recovery Plan) to minimize catastrophic event and as a contingency plan. I also undertook a feasibility study on environment calamity in production floor. Servicing customer through a successful user support (help desk) with minimum downtime utilizing a remedy system (Action Request System-Remedy) was also deployed successfully. My team consists of four developers, two database administrators and four system engineers

Success Stories (Projects)

• Environment Calamity Solution: Observed expenditure for inevitable equipment failure per month was as high as six to ten equipment. A close inspection found the failure caused by two major calamities. First, the cabinet which stored the monitor, CPU, network hub, and terminal was not properly ventilated, thus temperature often rose to 110 degrees Fahrenheit. The other adversity was the cabinet did not have proper filtering, therefore machine coolant dripped onto equipment. A simple fix by instituting a proper cabinet with efficient filtering and proper ventilation system together with preventive maintenance process saved thousands of dollars in expenses and critical production downtime.

• Back-up and DRP: Initially the recovery time for computer failure was more than 24 hours. This caused the line to lose about 1,500 parts per shift ($100 per part). Designed a plan to reduce restoration time from 24 to four hours. Advised the company to adapt up-to-the-minute (JIT) data back-up where a second set of data is written simultaneously to another floor system with no need for redundancy storage. A full back-up is to be done for individual system. This eases restoration time.

• Automation Scripts: Wrote various scripts to automate daily systems operation and management tasks. These enabled monitoring with a better snap-shot of hardware and software conditions, as well as troubleshooting and synchronizing the productions servers. The scripts also aided and alerted in performance tuning.

• Product Data Management (PDM): Evaluated suitable software implementation for business/sales tracking.
  
  
• B2B Integration: The project involved integrating 3 major automotive player in the industry with web collaboration for information sharing, document management and process management. The key factor brought this player together is to have a central database for vendor management and scrutinize purchasing. This was a joint venture project with NexPrise.

Success Stories (Projects)

• Operating Cost Reduction: Changed the methodology used to etch copper plates from a pin-cylinder (air pressure) push-up/down to a circular motion. Reduced the process time from five to three minutes. Further improved the process by introducing heat to the etching chemical, significantly reducing the through-put-time (TPT) to an average of one and a half minutes. This also saved costs with reduced production time, and longer usage of the chemical. By introducing heat, the etching quality was increased, dropping the reject rate to less than one percent, compared to 15% previously.

• Network Configuration: Successfully integrated Apple-Macintosh and PC systems using Timbuktu protocol to share files and image transfers.
