Windows Database of Suttas

(MAC, UNIX, Linux, etc. click here)

The Sutta Pitaka, the second division of the Tipitaka, consists of over 10,000 suttas, or discourses, delivered by the Buddha and his close disciples during the Buddha's forty-five year teaching career, as well as many additional verses by other members of the Sangha. I have created a database of over 900 sutta translations from material on the Access to Insight website. In order to access it, you need to:

  1. Download the Unicode Document Processor and install it by running the downloaded program (you can accept all the defaults).
  2. After the Unicode Document Processor has been installed, Download the Database and install it by running the downloaded program.
  3. See the second record for tips on how to use this database and UDP.

I have also created three Pali-English Dictionaries that work in conjunction with UDP and this Sutta Database. Click here for download and installation instructions.

Update History

This is a work-in-progress. It will be revised from time to time to include additional material. If you wish to use this sutta database with some database program other than UDP, you can follow the non-Windows instructions and import these suttas into a database of your choice.

The HTML files from the Access to Insight website were converted from HTML to RTF format using the free Ishtar32_14.exe converter program. The RTF files were read into UDP using File - Append to create this database.
