Why I Love Sailor Moon
By the Ginsu Samurai

How could anyone not love Sailor Moon? What does it not have? Love, check. Fighting, check. Comedy, double check. It has everything one could wish for in a cartoon series. But what is it that sets Sailor Moon apart from other shows?
I have thought long and hard about this very thing, pondering why I am so obsessed with this show, even now that I'm in college and should have "grown up". And in all my pondering, I think I've finally figured it out. There are three reasons why I love Sailor Moon: romance, youth and innocence, the three key themes of the show as I see them.

The romance of the Sailor Moon story is what first attracted me too it. I must admit that in the first episode I saw (Nightmare in Dreamland, #8 in the American dubs) it was that dashing man in the cape, Tuxedo Mask, who caught my eye and made me come back for more. Then as the series went on, the star-crossed love story of Serena and Darien drew me in. I'm a sucker for a good love story. But it is not just the story of our two lovers that is romantic. Imagine the exhistance of a perfect kingdom of peace throughout the gallaxy, people living together without famin or war, The Silver Millenium. That is the age of Romance, and it's very foundation as far as I'm concerned. Peace and love to all human kind. It is the hope of such a romantic and peaceful future that I love about the story in general.

As for youth, I am clinging to it, and Sailor Moon makes me feel younger. Now I'm not old really, not by almost any standard, but once you've entered college you can't help but worry about "the real world" looming in the not so distant future and thinking about things like bills and work and possibly a career. I look around and see all these "grown ups" around me and they really don't seem to be happy, having all their worries dragging them down. Some days I feel like that too. But then I watch Sailor Moon and some part of the child in me is alive again. After watching Sailor Moon I want to sing out loud, or dance, or just laugh with a few of my friends. So in a way, Sailor moon gives me the energy to go on and finish my responsibilities while still maintaining an element of fun in my life and learning to relax a little.

Finally, the innocence of Sailor Moon, both the story and the character, continue to facinate and inspire me. There is, of course, her physical innocence, which in this day is a rare thing. I mean, if I had a guy like Darien, I know I'd want to sleep with him!!! But she doesn't (until later in the future), and yet that's partly because of her true innocence, her innocent spirit. Sailor Moon, Serena, Usagi, what ever you call her has a spirit so pure and inncocent that by sheer will alone she can save the souls of others. If you know the entire story of Sailor Moon, then you know what I mean, so I won't say it here and spoil the end for those of you who don't, but in my mind Sailor Moon is the embodyment of pure love and innocence. She inspires me to be more like her and try to be a better person, either by helping a stranger in need or just not saying things behind peoples back. Stange at it may seem, she is my role model and just thinking about what Sailor Moon would do has helped me to be a better person and to make alot of new friends. I think that if everyone could try to live their lives like her, there could finally be a true world peace and maybe a Silver Millenium of our own.

To sum up, Sailor Moon makes me happy, inspires me to do my best and be kind to everyone, and gives me a positive outlook on life and human kind! I hope that after reading this you have a new perspective on Sailor Moon and what it means to you as well.
