AS YOU WISH

The Princess Bride is the property of some movie studio and writer. I'm just here to gush about how wonderful it is, which I don't think they'll mind. As stated before, the Princess Bride is a love story, yet an adventure, and still yet a witty film about being true to yourself. The original romantic comedy. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it, and I hope the character sketches help somewhat.

  1. "Life is pain, Highness... anyone who says differently is selling something."
    Wesley:
He's the hero, a farm boy who is lost at sea and returns a swashbuckling pirate. He is Buttercup's true love, rakish and gallant. An unmatchable swordsman.

  2. "Farm boy! Fetch me that pitcher?"
    Buttercup:
She's the heroine, a country girl who is chosen by the Prince to his bride. She loves only Wesley, but believes he is dead at sea and agrees to the wedding.

  3. "Tyrone, you know how much I love to watch you work... but I have my country's five hundredth anniversary to plan, my wife to murder, and Gildor to frame for it. I'm swamped."
    Prince Humperdink:
A Prince royal, he choses Buttercup, not because of looks or love, but because no one will miss her when he has her assassinated in order to start a war with the neighboring country of Gildor. He is a nasty fellow, a cowardly slime who gets his comeuppance, as he should.

  4. "Get some rest, Your Majesty... if you haven't got your health, you haven't got anything."
    Count Ruvan:
He's a henchman, Humperdink's most trusted advisor. He has a fascination with pain, six fingers on his right hand, and is just a tad effeminate. There is some eyebrow raising towards the nature of his true relationship to the prince, but it's strictly fan speculation.

  5. "Halo, my name is Inigo Montoya. You kill my father. Prepare to die."
    Inigo Montoya:
A Spaniard and a swordsman, he is introduced because he helps to kidnap Buttercup for Humperdink and Vincini, but he eventually turns good and helps Wesley and Buttercup reunite. Incidentally, Count Ruvan slaughtered his father, and his lifelong quest has been to avenge the death.

  6. "Be careful... people who wear masks are not to be trusted."
    Fezzik:
The bumbling big guy, played skillfully by Andre the Giant. He enjoys rhyming and hitting things with rocks. He is Inigo's sidekick, and has a heart of gold.

  7. "Inconcievable!"
    Vizzini:
A villain, contracted by Humperdink to start a war with Gildor. He kidnaps Buttercup with Inigo and Fezzik as his hired help. He is a nasty little man, and his only redeeming quality is that he dies.

  8. "True love is the greatest thing in the world... except for a nice MLT- mutton, lettuce, and tomato- when the mutton is nice and lean, and the tomato is ripe... mmm, I love that..."
    Miracle Max:
A bit part by Billy Crystal, Miracle Max is responsible for resurrecting Wesley from death when Count Ruvan kills him with the Machine. A funny guy.

  9. "I'm not a witch! I'm your WIFE!".
    Valerie:
Miracle Max's wife, she is old, funny, and very cranky.

  10. "The Pit of Despair...."
    Albino:
He doesn't talk much, he's Count Ruvan's servant. He makes sure people heal up well before the Machine is used to suck their life away.

  11. "Is this a kissing book?"
    Grandson:
A sick boy to whom the book "The Princess Bride" is read.

  12. "Yes, you're very clever. Now, shut up."
    Grandfather:
He reads the book to his grandson, with full narrative interruption and detail.

  13. "Mawidge... Mawidge is wot bwings us togethoh today."
    The Impressive Clergyman:
Called upon by Humperdink to marry him and Buttercup, he has a hysterical way of speaking.
