Vocabulary game for
drilling - adaptable to any level.
Two versions:
The simplest version is a basic wordsearch, suitable for students to complete alone, or
as homework. The more interesting version is a group version, suitable for a group
activity (and considerably longer - up to 30 minutes if required). Only the group version is
detailed below.
Materials:
Worksheet handouts - one per student
(see right, or other examples at bottom of page).
Six very large copies of the worksheet (double A3 if possible).
Collection of coloured chalk.
1 copy of the vocabulary list.
Time:
Up to 30 minutes. Any more, and the students will be exhausted!

Procedure:
Split the class into 6 groups, and clear bags out of the way (this game involves running).
Put the six large copies of the wordsearch up on the board and label each with a team
number.
For this example, you (or the JTE) read out one of the verbs hidden in the wordsearch, but
in the present tense. Students mentally convert the present tense verb into its past
tense form, and locate it on their own copy of the worksheet. Having found it, the student
jumps up and runs to the blackboard to draw a chalk line through the word. First team to do
so wins the point. Simple!
