Links
to Useful Programs
If you have any good programs to recommend, please e-mail
me. Also, don't forget to update your programs. For instance, every 6 months
or so, realplayer jumps up an integer and the video quality becomes that
much less crappy.
Download Programs
-
getright.com
The only download program that I've ever used. The resuming ability
is essential considering that I often download movie files.
-
Downloadaccelerator.com
-I've never used it.
-
Godzilla - A popular freeware download program. (I've never
used it.)
Viewing Programs and Neccessary files
-
Irfanview
Multimedia Player - My favorite media player. Use this program to quickly
load *.jpg, *.gif, almost any media file. Quickly browse your media collection
by hitting SPACE to go forward and BACKSPACE to go back. Edit pictures
(not recommended), play movies, sound files, etc
-
microsoft.com
or the Windows Update button under tools in Internet Explorer is useful
for getting Media Player. (I like version 6.4, but the new version has
its benefits too. Fortunately you can have both at the same time). Also
grab Windows Media Tools which comes with an ASF encoder/editor. The editor
works under DOS (Read the documentation)
-
real.com
Grab the realplayer or realproducer (the basic versions are hidden on the
page) there. Realproducer comes with rmeditor, a dos command line editor
for rm files. (Read the documentation)
-
DivX;-) Home Page Get the
DivX;-) codec necessary to play DivX;-) files (Often they have an avi extension)
here. The underground DivX;-) compression format, it's the mp3 of the video
world. DivX;-) is the hacked MPEG4 codec.
(Note that when playing a DivX;-)
movie in mediaplayer, you can click on Properties, then Advanced, then
doubleclick on the DivX codec and you'll get a window to adjust your video
quality. Neat!
-
DivX Digest
A pretty good site with a lot of links to editing/converting programs.
I recommend getting Virtualdub, w/ subtitler, w/ radium mp3 codec, w/ the
DivX;-) codec.
-
RM Fixer This
page has a rm fixer... I haven't tried it yet. They also have a thing called
a size checker, pretty obvious right?
-
VirtualDub
Homepage - My favorite AVI editing tool. It can convert MPG to AVI,
compress AVI using a variety of codecs (including DivX), compress audio,
crop videos, subtitle (Subtitling requires the subtitler plug-in), etc.
-
Sub Station Alpha
- This handy program allows people to subtitle. This program eases the
writing and timing of subtitles. A script file (*.ssa) is generated and
this file can be used to subtitle AVI files with the VirtualDub program
w/ subtitler.
Misc Programs
-
Winsfv32
Checks to make sure files downloaded are correct. I haven't used this myself
yet. This link will take you to Fumei
anime where I got it from.
-
Size
checker Same link as the one above for RM fixer
-
zsnes.com
Download a snes emulator and waste your life away, hahaha
-
Sub
Station Alpha (SSA) A subtitling program. Reads SSA files.
