Well, I agree, calling it an Island Tour is pushing it a bit; but since we were clocking in one performance per month since May......... Anyway, a pictorial Tour of what the Singapore Japanese Cultural Society Osuwa Daiko Team has been up to since May. Enjoy!
[One of those impatient type? Turn the Clock To | May| June| July| August| September| December]

[Singapore Arts Festival | Opening Celebrations | Festival Village | Fort Canning Park]
Great crowd, glorious Sun. And this is what The Straits Times (local newspaper) has to say: "Starting off the international percussion smorgasbord(Webmaster: n. Swedish hors-d'aeuvres; buffet meal with variety of dishes. Whatever) was the JCS Suwa Daiko Team. The loud and deep vibrations of its drums served as an effective rallying call to the people mingling around the stage."
Check out what you missed at the Festival Village here in the happening.com site

[Thunderous Drums | A Celebration Of World Percussion Music | Harbour Pavilion | World Trade Centre]
Late late nites. Not much of the Sun. The same may be said about the crowd.....not much. But it was great to check out what others are doing with a pair of sticks and stretched raw hide.

[National Kidney Foundation Charity Show | Television Corporation of Singapore | TCS]
This TCS charity event pulled in S$3.7 million of pledges for the NKF . Seen here is TCS artiste Aileen Tan, who (according to The Straits Times (yes, them again)) "in a Japanese dance with Mark Lee and Henry Thia (Webmaster: AND THE JCS SUWA DAIKO TEAM), bruised a knuckle while kneading rice in a wooden bowl."
Note that no daiko drummers were harmed in the production of this show.
For all groupies out there: MORE TCS CELEBS!!!

[Japanese Cultural Society | 35th Anniversary Celebration | Shangri-la Hotel]
And celebrate we did . First with a drum performance that got the evening going, and then we got to wine and dine, rounding off the nite with karaoke. And we did find time to win ourselves some stuff in the lucky draw. On your left, our happy foursome (don't remember anyone of them winning anything in the draw, though).

[Konichiwa Matsuri | PARCO | Bugis Junction]
It had to be the prelude to Hiryu Sandan Gaishi (from the bamboo sticks in the hands of the drummer at the back), it had to be Bugis Junction (the road sign said so), it must be one of them Sunday or Saturday (from the size of the crowd), and the crowd is standing a wee bit too close for comfort (just check out our expression).

[Bukit Timah GRC | Countdown New Year Celebration | Singapore Science Centre]
This picture taken right after we welcome in the new millennium (or the last year of the current millennium, depending on your school of thought) with a BANG....and minutes before the Y2K bug planted an Iridium satellite right before us, and wiped out the planet with a barrage of non-Y2K-compliant Russian ICBM nuclear missiles (but not before the camera erroneously stamped the photo with a date of 01-01-1900).
