LIFE POEMS

GO FOR WHAT YOU WANT

Don't be afraid,
To continue to pursue your dreams you've made.
If you begin today to take the lead,
Chances are, you're more likely to succeed.
You have that move to pick your career,
pick your direction, and pick your goal
and carry it through to completion.

You know yourself best of all,
and what you want, great or small.
If you don't do something,
and learn to be challenging,
Others' decisions may be good too.
But it's not better for you.
You have to make the decisions
and it has to be better for you,
to be better for the people you love.

Now that your visions
are clearest and goals set high,
make your decisions and make them wise.
Like the lonely traveler
from 'The Road Not Taken' by Robert Frost:

"Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair.....

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference."

Learn not to fear circumstances,
You'll lose more if you don't take chances.
But if the paths you find are not satisfying,
You can change your mind.
The power is in your hand,
It's you, who make the change of plans.

IN
SEARCH
OF

My mind wanders
Along the ocean of life.
I walk down this lonely path
Knowing not what to find.
Only knowing I'm going to walk,
Forever in my path that combs the sky
And see the endless sea of visions in each wave.
Maybe I'll find what I have been looking for,
Something somewhere buried
Along the ocean of life.
Waiting for some signal
To flow into life.
I'll find what I've been looking for,
Down this lonely path.

OUR CRY IN THE NIGHT

We cry tears of fear into the dark, humid night
Stumbling over listless bodies,
Our eyes grow with terror and fright.
The pounding of our heart,
With our life, we do not want to have to part.

We cry tears of pain
As we stood in utter silence
And watch those we love die in vain
To leave their bodies and memory to rot on the ground
While we have to get out of our town.

We journey through darkness-
Riding the wind and rain on the way.
We can't see,
But we must not go astray.
Where are we going?
Each of us ask the other not knowing.

We are confused.
We almost think we can't go on.
Step after step
We take with dread
Growing more fearful of what might lay ahead.

The pain is real
In our heart
In our minds.
Each of us has a story to tell,
‘Cause we've been there, the memories dwells.

THE WAR (VIETNAM)

The loud crash of bombs
keep us from our sleep.
And as it hits the ground
another flourishes in the air.
No one shall speak,
Too afraid to make a sound.
Then all at once they came,
Like frightened little animals,
we scurried and screamed.
But where do we go from here?
We run
Not a shelter near.
Airplanes are flying fiercely,
high and low.
Woman, child, and families
clung to each other dearly.
While their fathers, sons, and husbands-
young, old, and in between
who have joined the forces,
and never coming back.

We run.
Miles long
We can see all the men
who have died.
Most of them
their eyes open wide.
When will it end?
Will we all die in vain?
When will we feel safe and free?
Or will we ever be?
To this day, the war is still a mystery.
And we are not yet free.
We fought but we never win
We fought but we never gain.
We awaken only to find,
much sorrow and pain,
We keep thinking the world
will adjust to our wishes,
But it doesn't happen.
Will it ever? When?

Free To Be

Clear summer
Cool, warm breeze coming from the lake
brush itself gently across my face.
I gaze out to the open, blue space.
which stretches far and wide
to the other side
of Michigan.

I watch the seagulls,
Flying noisely and freely up above,
with not a single worry on their mind.
Happiness and joy are all they seem to find
up there in the translucent sky,
while I observed them fly,
to whatever place they willfully choose.

If I have two pairs of wings
and if I could fly,
not a single thing will stop me
from soaring to anywhere I want to be.
I want to be loose, high, and pure,
free from all the troubles and fears,
worries and desolation
that heaves heavily inside.

For My Friend

If you're wondering
what I am thinking,
If you're imagining,
what I am feeling
If you're wishing
what I am needing...
Your thoughts are mine the same.
Words need not to explain
of the ways I am feeling.
Silence speaks of what I'm not revealing.
But there is one thing I do need to say
that I cannot let it go astray.
I feel silence cannot fully express,
in words more or less,
of what's in my heart most sincere.
This feeling I keep it,
like a treasure, very dear.
That is, my heart's thanks:
    Thank you,
for being the friend I want you to.
Most people that I've known,
very few have grown
to show the kindness and understanding as you.
You're always showing concern and interests,
of my worst and best.
With you, my friend, I didn't have to worry;
Say things that I may later be sorry.
You're forgiving and accepting.
And that's what sets you apart
in that one place in my heart~
    you're always listening.

OUR PROBLEMS

THERE ARE SO MANY PROBLEMS
IN THIS RESTLESS WORLD OF CARE.
WE GROW WEARY AND TROUBLED,
WITH EACH PASSING DAY,
HARDER AND HARDER TO BEAR.
THE SKIES ARE OVERCAST
AS WE TRY TO FACE THE FUTURE,
WHILE DWELLING IN THE PAST...
WE, WITH OUR PROBLEMS,
ONLY LISTEN WITH ONE EAR,
FOR WE ONLY LISTEN TO THE THINGS
WE WANT TO HEAR.
AND WE ONLY HEAR THE KIND OF THINGS
WE ARE ABLE TO BELIEVE.
BUT NOT THE KIND OF THINGS
WE'RE READY TO RECEIVE.
OUR PROBLEMS KEEP GROWING EVERY DAY,
AND WE VAINLY TRY TO SOLVE THEM
IN EACH OUR OWN SELF-WILLFUL WAY...
WHATEVER THEY MAY BE.

Shadows in My Life

Shadows are hiding what I couldn't see.
Sometimes I wonder what there is for me.
Visions unclear.
Shadows are blocking what I couldn't find.
Hopes and dreams disappear.
I feel so unsure.
What am I going to do?
I ask my reflections in the mirror.
Lost is what I'm going through.

As I look around, I see things that remind me.
I try to understand, find a reason to be.
I couldn't find what I was looking for;
I guess all my dreams come true,
Are just not there anymore.
Life is telling me to take on a new view.
But where do I start, when I have no beginning?
How do I find the light?
When shadows are hiding
What I couldn't see from my sight.

"so much, little time"

Often amidst quiet nights in my room,
I thought of the many things
that has to be done,
with so little time I have.
I go by a clock, making sure
I'm not late and having to run,
rushing to finish what I have left undone.
But what is time?
Just another figure on life's path;
passing swiftly by.
So many things doth bring,
when I think about these things
contesting with time.
My heart fills with heavy grief;
I give a deep sigh,
repeating from time to time.
My mind feels
as if it has been in intoxication...
But, I go about my weary way
trying, trying
to fulfill the unfinish tasks in every anticipation.
Most times successful,
other times, I have to give it another day.
No matter how hard I try,
I just can't seem to work.
The hours keep on rolling by,
and cast upon this heart of mine
the tasks left undone
with so little time
and solutions seem hard to find.

THE MONTH OF THE COLD

EVERY TIME OF THE YEAR
AS WE ALL CAN REMEMBER
COMES THE MONTH OF DECEMBER
WITH SNOW FALLING DOWN
FLUFFY WHITE ALL OVER TOWN.

CITY STREETS,
SLIPPERY WITH SLEET.
CARS CRAWL-ITS DESTINATION TO MEET.
PEOPLE BLOWING FINGERS
AND STAMPING THEIR FEET.

THE AIR IS ICY AND STILL,
THE WINDS BLOW.
TREES STAND UNDERNEATH THE FROZEN SNOW,
WHITE AND COMPLETELY BARE-
NO LONGER, ITS LEAVES SWISH FREELY IN THE AIR.

IT'LL BE AWHILE FOR
THE SNOW TO MELT
AND SPRING AIR FELT.
FOR JANUARY AND FEBRUARY FOLLOW
WITH MORE WIND, COLD, AND SNOW.

STOP

I tell myself
My life is going to change.
It will be different.
Someday people will see
And they will believe.
But why don't they stop
Staring with accusing eyes?
I have no disguise.
I want to be left alone.

Do they think I don't know?
Just because I don't show
that I care
when they stare?
Do they pretend that I don't see?
And they could whisper behind my back?
I am not as naive.

Good-Bye

So long.
It’s been nice to have known you
for all these years.
We have a lot of good talk on the phone
and sometimes we have shared a few tears.
You also were very prompt on your mail,
when I need a good cheer I could count on you.
Your friendship never fails.
You have been very devoting
and concerned about me.
Thank you for all the times you’ve been promoting,
so that you could make me happy.
You cared
and loved me for who I am.
You’re someone who shared
with me all your innermost feelings.

I don’t know how to tell you,
how much you have changed my life.
I’m not as sad and blue,
I’ve learned to overcome even the hardest strife.
One of them is the ability
to be on my own,
Now that you leave.
I’m so glad that you did
because making it through myself have really shown.
So I want to say that if someday,
you need someone, you can call on me.
I’ll try to help you in every which way
I possibly can.
