Thank you very much for visiting this site!
Both Bantayog ng mga Bayani (Monument of Heroes -- Phil. Nat'l. Heroes) and Mga Awit ng Nakaraan (Songs of the Past -- Phil. Myths, Legends, Folktales and Stories of the Supernatural) will be updated twice every month with additional biographies and tales/stories/info. Doing research on these areas is a hobby of mine and I still have a lot of material to post on this site.

ABOUT THIS SITE

This site was originally a part of a larger web site, the CyberDen. Bantayog ng mga Bayani and Mga Awit ng Nakaraan were two "rooms" out of seven "rooms" in the CyberDen. The other rooms featured the island where I currently live (Mactan Island: history, government, activities, etc.), Philippine customs and traditions, sci-fi novels and movies, Pugad Baboy (an excellent comic strip in the Philippines -- extremely hilarious with wonderful artwork and a dose of biting social and political commentary) and canines (canine trivia, canine jokes and famous canines). Unfortunately, I could not find the time to maintain such a large site (research, monthly updates, etc.) so I decided to close down most of the rooms and concentrate on Bantayog ng mga Bayani and Mga Awit ng Nakaraan. The emphasis of this site is information and not aesthetics so most of the time spent on this site will be done on research but I'll try to add images whenever I can find the time.

Comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated. If you have information relevant to this site that you would like to share or if you encounter a problem with this site, just e-mail me.

ABOUT ME

Let's start with the obvious: I'm a Filipino and I'm interested in the lives of my country's national heroes as well as in it's myths, legends, folktales and stories of the supernatural. Actually, I'm interested in myths, legends, folktales and stories of the supernatural in general irregardless of their country of origin. My other areas of interests are:

Science Fiction
No doubt you guessed that I'm a Trekkie fan when you saw the Klingon translation at the main page and at the top of this page. I love sci-fi in general whether they're movies, tv shows, novels or short stories. My all-time favorite movies are Star Wars, Star Trek, Jurassic Park and Independence Day. My favorite tv shows are Star Trek (especially the original series), X-Files and Babylon 5. And my favorite sci-fi authors are Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke and Carl Sagan.
Mysteries, Myths, Legends, Folktales and Stories of the Supernatural and of the Unknown
The Bermuda Triangle. The Loch Ness Monster. Eastern Europe's Vampires, North America's Bigfoot and the Philippines' Manananggal. The Greek Zeus, the Norse Odin, the Babylonian Marduk and the Philippine Kaptan. I enjoy doing research on these topics!
Canines
Who doesn't love dogs? My favorite breed? All of them! Here's one of my favorite quotations (it was inscribed on the gravestone of Byron's dog, Boatswain): "Beauty without vanity, Strength without insolence, Courage without ferocity, and all the Virtues of man without his vices."
Computer Programming, the Internet and Computers in general
My favorite languages are C++ and Java although I also use Visual BASIC and Visual FoxPro (and assembly language for microprocessor-based design projects). I'm also interested in Oracle. As for the Internet, what's not to like? I also enjoy designing microprocessor-based devices although I haven't picked up my tools in a while as I've been busy with software development, web page design and research.
As for who I am and what I do, I'm Robin M. Barangan and I'm an instructor as well as a freelance software developer, web page designer and computer consultant.
