Kirsty is the only female character in the entire group, or as she once put it "Me, and four token boys."  That statement alone says quite a lot about Kirsty.  For one thing, she doesn't lack for self-confidence.  Modesty yes, but not self-confidence.  She tends to take charge of situations.  She is very intelligent and does well in school.  She takes up causes (or at least projects) and then does her best to win.  Definitely a type A personality.  If you've ever seen Neon Genesis Evangelion think of her as being kind of like Asuka, but less annoying.  She's also the oldest member of the group being about a year older than Johnny.
 
 

She's also, pretty much by default, the closest thing Johnny has to a love interest.
