Welcome to the Kingdom of
Thailand. Thailand is my second home after Singapore. Thailand is situated
in Southeast Asia. It has a population of about 60 million (similar to
UK or France) and has a rich culture. The land area is slightly smaller
than the state of Texas in USA. Most Thai people are Buddhists. Other minority
religions include Christianity and Islam. However these religions only
make up less than 4% of the population. When we refer to 'Thai people',
it doesn't mean that we just refer to just ethnic Thais. There are other
ethnic groups as well staying in Thailand for generations. The largest
of them are the Chinese, who make up about 9 to10 million of the entire
Thai population. According to research and statistics, 1 out of 3 Thais
in central and northern Thailand has Chinese blood. So don't be surprised
that when you go to Thailand, you can see so many people who look like
or have features similar to Chinese. Chinese-Thais are found mainly in
cities, especially Bangkok. In the Bangkok Chinatown, you will feel more
like in Hong Kong or China than in Thailand. Most ethnic Chinese in Thailand
are of Teochew or Hakka (keh) dialect origin. Others include Hokkien, Hainanese
and Cantonese. Hokkiens are found mainly in Southern Thailand like Phuket
or Hat-Yai area. Throughout the years, these is no disharmony amongst ethnic
groups in Thailand. Ethnic Thais, Chinese-Thais and other minority work
and live well together.

The
Capital - Bangkok (Krung Thep)
Bangkok, the largest city, is the capital of the Kingdom of Thailand. 'Krung Thep' is the Thai name for Bangkok. Only the Thais call Bangkok as 'Krung Thep'. This vibrant cosmopolitan city has a population of about 8 million people. As you know, Bangkok is famous for its heavy traffic, Bangkokians (the people of Bangkok) have to endure hours to get to work or go to school. (^_^ No choice, that's Bangkok's Lifestyle) Just like many big cities in Asia, Bangkok is a modern and busy city where you can get many things you want. It has many things to offer. It is a shopping and entertainment paradise where millions of people from all over the world visit every year. It has reasonable price for goods and services. Thai food is also one of the reasons why foreigners like to visit Bangkok and Thailand. You'll know more about Thai food next page.

ChiangMai
& Chiang Rai - Rose of the North
Chiangmai is the second major city of the Kingdom of Thailand. It has been
known as the 'Rose of the North'. It represents the major trade industry
and tourist destination of Northern Thailand. It has its own dialects and
authentic food.
Chiangmai is also famous for producing one of the finest silk products
in the world.
Chiangmai is the starting point for foreigners to explore the north. From there, you can get to see the nature - mountains, rivers and elephants (endangered species).
As one of the oldest cities (over 700 years old) in Thailand, you can see many historical sites and temples.
