JUPITER KNIGHT PART VIII
That night, when she got home, Lita found a letter from France in
her mailbox. Lita knew it was Ken, and tore the envelope open. What
she found was a three page letter. She brought it in with her to
the bedroom and laid it beside her bed. She took off her clothes and
changed into a long shirt. She crawled into bed and read the letter
intently. In most of the letter, he said how much he missed her and
how much he loved her. She didn't bother to wipe away the tears
that stained the letter. When she finished the long letter, she
carefully folded it and put it in a drawer next to her bed. Out
of the corner of her eye, she saw a pile of books.
"Might as well do some homework. I don't want to turn into
Serena over night." Lita sighed to herself. "Don't want
to turn into Ami either."
She finished all of the assigned work in less than an hour and
flopped tiredly onto bed. When she closed her eyes, instead of
seeing Ken, she thought she saw something else. Someone else. It
was that guy who attacked her. The one with the look. The sad look
that made her want to help. How could anyone so evil have that
pitiful look? She tried not to think about it, but the look was
haunting. That guy looked so familiar. Lita could've swarn that
she saw him somewhere.
"I can't believe you! You are a total disgrace!" Calbrom was
bandaging his hands. Sailor Jupiter had given him a pretty
deep burn.
Galdon just looked down at his own hand. It wasn't burned or
anything from Sailor Jupiter, but there was a bandage on where
the cat had attacked him.
"What's wrong with you? Why didn you hesitate?"
Galdon looked up at his brother. How evil they both were. Taking
energy from humans. He knew it was the only way they would survive.
To kill Sailor Jupiter. He didn't know the exact reason why they
had to kill her. Calbrom only stated that she was in the way.
Tonight, he couldn't get himself to do it. He had seen the
way she looked at him. It wasn't a look of hate, it was another
look. He hoped she understood him, and why he had to do it.
"You are in love with that human aren't you?" Calbrom's voice
interupted his thoughts. Galdon looked at his brother's mean scowl.
"No." he mumbled.
"Liar! You are a liar!"
"Yes, I like her a little." Galdon finally admitted.
Calbrom brought his hand back and hit his brother hard. "You little
idiot. She is our enemy! You cannot do this to me."
Galdom winced in pain as his brother took his hand away. "Wrong.
She is your enemy. I don't know why. She looks innocent. Why do
you hate her?"
Calbrom sighed angrily, "Have you forgotten? It is because of her
that our people in the future are gone. She is a killer. She destroyed
us!"
"NO! She did not! We destroyed each other out of greed. You
have forgotten. Why do you blame everything on the innocent?" Galdon
got up and stomped off to his room. He made a resolution to never
become like his brother. He won't try to stop Calbrom, but he won't
help him either.
"Don't you dare do anything to protect her!" Calbrom shouted after
him.
Ken's head snapped up. He had been daydreaming in class again. This
time, it ws real. He had pictured Lita, no, Sailor Jupiter being
attacked by two men. No one was there to help her. She was going to
get killed! He couldn't do anything about it. She's going to die!
No, Ken told himself. He was imagining again. He had to be. There
was no way he could know what was going on all the way in Tokyo. He
was jsut hallucinating. Ken nodded, as he drifted off in another
daydream.
Boom!
Ken slid off the chair in class. People all around him was
snickering.
Lita packed herself a lunch, and grabbed her books. She closed the
front door infront of her house, and walked in the direction of the school.
She was thinking about what to write to Ken in the letter. She was
thinking so hard that she didn't even see the man walking toward her
until it was too late. With a bang, she bumped into him and dropped
everything.
"I'm so sorry. Please accept my apologies, sir." she mumbled as
she gathered her lunch and books in one arm. So far, all she could
see were the shoes of the man she bumped into.
"Don't say you're sorry. It's a poor policy in life to begin
every encounter with an apology." the man said and pulled her hand up.
Lita knew who it was long before she even got a look at him. She
heard that voice somewhere. She got to her feet and looked at him.
"I'm sorry, Don."
"No need to be. I should have been looking at where I was
going anyway."
Lita wondered why he was heading the opposite direction of where
the school was. "Where were you going? The school is the other way."
Don left his hand on her arm, "I was going to see if you were
home so I could walk you to school." He said that with ease, as
if he said to all the girls.
Lita blushed a lot with that comment. "I have to tell you
something Don."
"Yes?" he said with a questioning tone.
"I don't want to jump to conclusions, but I already have a boyfriend."
Lita said.
She saw the color of his eyes turn sad suddenly.
Don looked down. "I see. Who is it?"
"He's on a trip out of the country. But I love him very much. I like
you too, but only as a friend." Lita said.
Liar! she told herself. She liked him more than that and she knew it.
"Only and a friend." Don repeated, stressing the word only.
"I'm sorry." Lita said truthfully. She really was sorry, but she
didn't know for what.
"I have to tell you something Lita. Come walk with me." Don led
her across the street into a small park.
"No we'll be late for class." Lita said, walking the other way.
Don firmly gripped her arm, turning serious, "Come with me. Sailor
Jupiter."
Lita stopped dead in her tracks, the shock showing in her face.
"I am not Sailor Jupiter." she said, her voice trembling. She
wasn't very convincing.
"Don't lie to me. I know who you are. Don't pretend." he led her
into the park.
Don sat her down on a bench and sat next to her. The boyish charm
that use to twinkle in his eyes were gone now. Instead, there was
a look of pain. Lita knew that look. She prepared herself to transfrom.
"Don't transform. I won't hurt you." Don pleaded.
"You hurt my friends." Lita's eyes turned to clod steel.
"I won't hurt you!" Don repeated. "I wouldn't do anything to hurt you."
"Jupiter..."
Don quickly pinned her arms down firmly. Lita couldn't move, which
meant she couldn't transform.
"Let me go! You're hurting my arms!" Lita shouted.
"Listen to me!" Don shouted back, letting Lita a little room to
move her arms, but not enought to transform. "I wouldn't do anything
to hurt you. I'm sorry about your friends, but I won't do it again. Now
listen very carefully. You are in a lot of danger. My brother wants
to kill you. He can."
"Liar!" Lita screamed.
"You have to believe me. My brother is very evil. We are the
ones who attacked all those people last night." he released the hold
on Lita and walked back. "Be careful of my brother he will kill you."
He started a light jog out of the park.
Lita stared after him, she didn't know if she should believe him. She
was just about to walk out of the park when a dark cloud appeared infront
of her. She held her hands up, ready to transform.
"Jupiter Star Makeup!"
In half a second, she was Sailor Jupiter, and ready to fight. She
recognized the man in the cloud. It was the same man that held her
to die last night. She prepared a lightning ball for him. As soon
as she was charged, she threw it at him.
"Weak." Calbrom said. He held a hand out and blocked off the
lightning with some sort of forcefield. "Weak just like my brother."
"Who are you?" Sailor Jupiter screamed.
"Calbrom. You've already met my love-stricken brother Galdon. Don,
as you might know him."
"Lovestricken?" Sailor Jupiter said.
"Stupid. Both of you are stupid. There is no such thing as love.
The world is based on greed and lies." Calbrom pointed the end of a
metal rod at his opponent. The end started to sparkle, shooting off
little flames of some sort. Just as the flame flew to Sailor Jupiter,
she ducked out of the way. When she looked back, she saw the flame
was following her. She ran as fast as she could, constantly looking
back to see the flame still on her tail.
She ran straight into Don, or Galdon. She fell to the floor, and
watched Galdon raise a hand, forming a forcefield. The same forcefield
that Calbrom used to ward off her lighting. The flame hit the force
field, but judging by the look on his face, it hit Galdon as well.
"Are you okay?" Sailor Jupiter asked as she got up.
"Stay down!" he ordered. He withdrew a long thing metal rod, similar
to the one Calbrom had. He prepared to fire, when his brother let
go of another fireball. He held up another forcefield to protect Sailor
Jupiter with. Galdon braced himself for another burning pain. The
forcefield could protect him from other things, but never his
brother's powers. At least he would be able to keep Sailor Jupiter from
getting hurt. As soon as the fireball hit, he shuddered at the burning
pain that raced up and down his spine. It made him see flashing stars
in his eyes.
Galdon summoned up all his power and aimed the metal rod at his
brother. He had enough energy to hurt his brother. Galdon was
careful not to hurt his brother too badly. A fatal hit would mean
both of them would die.
"How can you turn against your own brother? Don't you love me?"
Calbrom asked with mock sincerity.
"There is no love!" Galdon shot a laser into his brother's head.
Calbrom stumbled back, and dissapeared in another dark cloud. Galdon
knelt down at Sailor Jupiter.
"Now do you believe me?" he asked.
"Yes." Sailor Jupiter looked down at the burn marks all over Galdon's
hands. She felt sorry for him. For a moment she even thought she
loved him. No. She would not love any one evil. Was he really
evil? She had Ken. They were destined. But she couldn't
help this feeling to Galdon.
"Do you trust me now?"
"I don't know." Sailor Jupiter said sadly.
Galdon reached down and caressed her cheeks. How soft her skin
was. He was happy he was able to save the soft skin from any burns.
"Someday you will..." Galdon said softly. "My love."
Sailor Jupiter watched him walk deep into the forest until he
dissapeared in a blur. "Aren't you going to school anymore?" she
called out when she reverted to her school uniform.
"There is no more use. I'm not going to chase you to kill
anymore. Be careful of my brother, though." a voice rang out.
Lita sighed and looked down at her watch. It was already lunchtime.
No use in going to school. She was already too late. Lita made
her way home on the deserted street. She was halfway home when
a red porshe pulled up beside her. The tinted windows rolled down
and Darien's face came out.
"Are you suppose to be in school?" he asked.
"Yes."
Darien saw the way Lita looked. She looked sad and confused.
He opened the passanger side door for her and said, "Come in. I'm
off work. I think you have something to talk about."
Lita didn't know what else to do. She stepped in and sat
in silence. They drove for a long time in silence.
"Where are we going?" Lita asked, breaking the silence.
"My house." Darien answered. "I'll make you some tea."
When they got there Lita followed Darien up twelve flights of stairs.
She made it up without any complaining.
"Wow. Serena usually started complaining on the fifth floor." Darien
joked.
He let her in and told her to sit on the couch. She sat down and
looked around. Everything was very orderly. On the wall was a framed
picture of Darien and Serena at the park. They all looked happy and
free of worry.
Darien walked into the kitchen and rummaged in the cupboards for
a while.
"Green tea okay?" he called from the kitchen.
"Fine." Lita called back.
Darien poured some boiling water into the teacups and brought
them out. He handed one to Lita, and left the other one on the table.
"How's Ken?" he asked.
At the mention of his name, Lita's hand trmbled and some of the
tea splashed out. She put the cup on the sofa.
"He's fine." Lita said shakily. "He wrote to me and said how
much he missed me and loved me. And he..."
Lita broke down crying. She never cried so easily. She didn't
know why she would start now. Darien handed her a tissue and
waited for her to continue. Lita just sobbed quietly into the tissue.
Darien saw that she wasn't going to continue.
"Lita. What's wrong?" he asked as he handed her another tissue.
"Nothing." Lita cried harder.
"You can't say nothing is wrong when you're crying as hard as this.
Whatever's making you cry so hard must be bad." Darien said.
"It is."
"What is?"
Lita looked up at him with red rimmed eyes. "I think I love someone
else."
Darien was shocked. She thought that Lita and Ken would be forever.
It was destiny. He didn't mention the destiny part, since
sometimes it could be a neusance.
"What do you mean? I thought you love Ken?"
"I do. But I love someone else." Lita said, "I'm so confused."
"Who is it? It has to be someone really great since it made
you this confused."
Lita wondered if she should tell him. Usually, she discussed these
things with Ken, but since he wasn't here and it involved Ken, she
didn't know who to talk to.
"You can tell me. I'm not going to beat them up or anything." Darien
said.
Lita sighed. "You know those two men who attacked last night?"
Darien could ony nod. Please don't let it be one of them, he hoped.
"While you were all unconscious, the short one caught me. He
ordered the other one to shoot at me, kill me. I waited for him
to do that, but he didn't. You should have seen the look in his eyes.
It was so sad. He looked like he didn't want to do it. He looked
so pitiful. That was the chance I got to zap the short one." Lita said.
"Is that who you love?" Darien interupted.
"Well," Lita started.
