The Austin Healey 3000

This is another "big Healey." These are great cars, in fact, Antoine's neighbor has one! He even let Antoine ride in it a couple of times. Yesterday(5/24/97), they rode up all the way to Birmingham in it, about 1 1/2 hours away. It started raining, but that was okay, since most of the rain went over the car. One of the most fun things to do is drive on open-topped roadster in the rain. Makes people think you're crazy, and they might just make a few wierd faces or gestures at you, but that's only because they're jelous... Heh. Well, this is one of Antoine's favorite sports cars. This one is a little bigger than the Sprite, hence the name "Big Healey." It has a 3 liter V-6 engine. I don't quite know the stats on one, but it is fun to ride in. Its a little bigger than an MGB, and a lot more fun too. There aren't many around, so its a real treat to see one. This car lasted until 1969, when sadly, Austin Healey disappeared. There was going to be a 4000, but plans for that were dropped. When you start the engine up, the roar lets you know you're in for a treat. Not many cars can be more fun to ride in than most others are to drive, and this big Healey is one of them. Sure, these new things have protection, air conditioning, and a radio. If you you drive safely, you don't need air bags. The only air conditioner you need in this car is the one you get when you put down the roof. And who needs radio when you have exhaust note? That steady "Vbbbbbbb.." is so relaxing, that you won't even miss the radio! In fact, modern conviniences don't mean a thing when you're driving this car, because its so fun! Okay, here comes the bad news. Sadly enough, Big Healeys are disapeering these days into collectors garages, never to be driven again. If those stupid "automatic highways" are built, where will the fun of a big healey go? Besides, there are still people who can upload viruses into the highway's computer, and have the biggest accident in history. Thankfully, they get moderate gas milage, around 20mpg, with a 13 gallon tank. Oops. More bad news. To be seen driving one of these, and have it in your garage could cost up to $30,000... Doh! $40,000 for supreme ones... Well, there are still the kind hearted people out there who sell them for a little cheaper, around $15,000... Still doh... Well, these beautiful cars do make good transportation, and believe it or not, they're acctually fun to work on. Though you do need patience if you don't want to throw tools around....
