Tokyo Crazy Paradise Merchandise

Note: We are not selling any of these items. (We just wish we could get them (-_-;) ). The pieces of merchandise listed on this page are mainly won through contests from the magazine Hana to Yume and it seems to be only available to participants who live in Japan. We're just putting up a web page to show what was available in these kinds of contests so that all of us who love Nakamura Yoshiki's Tokyo Crazy Paradise can cry over stuff that we can't get and dream about all the wonderful opportunities that we would have if we lived in Japan (such as manga, anime, more manga, more anime, ...).

Here's something that you can actually get even if you don't live in Japan. Packaged along with the CD are - Ryuji bandaids! They're ten thousand yen each (that's what it says on the bandaid) and you get four of them. What a deal! BTW, there's also a game in the CD booklet - all the players are Tsukasa and the object of the game is to accumulate the least debt (^-^).

Now here's a decent translation of that merchandise ad by the wonderful Yuki. She did it a long time ago (I think about two months) but I never got a chance to post it up so here it is. I've put in a couple of additional comments and they're in parentheses with SC in the beginning.

This was advertised in Hana to Yume 1998 volumes 16 through 19.

Merchandise page

Original Full Colour Goods for 500 people (for volumes 16 through 19, a total of 2000 people).

Part 2 “Tokyo Crazy Paradise” by Nakamura Yoshiki. This time, the colourful goods presents are from the series “Tokyo Crazy Paradise”. A collection of gifts with prints of Tsukasa and Ryuji. A must have!!

  1. Wallet (50 people)

Holds many cards and the pix of the 2 are cute. ©

Black wallet with many card holders and a change holder. The SD of Ryuji is from some ad. The SD of Tsukasa is from episode no 20, after Tsukasa realizes that Akira admired her father. (SC - For those who can't see it too clearly, I can't, Tsukasa's kneeling on one knee, clasping her hands, with tears streaming down her face.)

  2. B5 clear shitajiki (80 people)

A happy and active Tsukasa ©

For those who don’t know, a shitajiki is something you put under your paper while you write on it so that it won’t leave marks on the next sheet. There’s the plastic and the cardboard type. (This one is plastic of course). That’s what they’re supposed to be for anyways. I personally would rather collect them just for the sake of the pictures. For those who are wondering about the spelling... it depends on who’s translating.

The pic is from the title page of one of the episodes. I don’t have this picture now ‘cause it’s in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada.

  3. Double pen (80 people)

Has both pencil and pen functions.

Looks like there’s text on the barrel of the pen-pencil, but I can’t make it all out.

  4. Ring bound note book (50 people)

    19 cm x 14 cm (A5 type)

Ryuji is shown on the back cover ©

This is direct copying from the “English” that’s on the cover.

“Tsukasa lost her parents, who were both police, in a fight that broke out between gang members. Tsukasa and her brothers were left destitute.
The year is 2020. The place, a metropolis of crime. Tokyo.”

The back repeats a bit of what’s on the cover.

“Tsukasa lost her parents, who were both police, in a fight that broke out between gang members. Tsukasa and her brothers were left destitute. On top of it all, the leader of the Kuryu gang and fellow classmate.
Ryuji Shirogami stumbled into their house for an unsuspected long term visit.”

The picture of Tsukasa is the title page for one of the episodes... I don’t remember which one... The picture for Ryuji is half of the title page for episode no. 24. It’s also on the cover of tankoubun 5.

  5. Mug (50 people)

    It’s conveniently 11 cm tall ©

The pic of Ryuji is from episode no. 27. It’s when Ryuji suddenly shows up in the emergency rubber boat all of the sudden with Kamo-san at New Heaven Tokio... I don’t know where the pic for Tsukasa came from.

  6. Key holder (50 people)

    Soft plastic type ©

I have no idea where these SDs came from.

  7. Waterproof radio (20 people)

You can listen to it in the bath ©

AM/FM radio, with a pic of Tsukasa. [I know of models similar to this that float... Doesn’t say anything about it though...]

  8. Original telephone card (100 people)

If you’re wondering, the picture came out as a title page for episode no 43. It’ll get scanned in soon, when I get the pic to one of the editors. (SC - Haven't got the pic yet but there's a larger version of the phone card in the telephone card gallery)

For the curious this was one of those “send a postcard with your name, address and choice of gift and you may win” type of contests. Apparently, 20 luck people had a chance of winning products 1 through 6 if he/she chose any of the first 6 gifts.

* Actually we do know why there are differences in the names. It is a matter of romanization. There are consistent ways to translate Japanese words into English but Yuki didn't use them. She says her spelling is defensible.
