ROY THOMAS (TOM) PREMO, JR. grew up in Klamath Falls, attended Mills Elementary and graduated from Klamath Union High School (KUHS) and Oregon Institute of
Technology (OTI).
The Premo family, mother, Edna "Jackie" Premo, father, Roy Thomas Premo, and two sons (Tom & Jerry) lived across from Mills at 408 Owens Street. Their father was office manager for Lorenz Hardware in Klamath Falls and
Lorenz Lumber Company in Burney, Shasta County, CA and their
mother was an RN in surgery at Klamath Valley Hospital and
a nurse at a sawmill in Burney.
TOM visited the Klamath Falls Museum (Old Armory) during the KUHS Class of 1954 45th Reunion in July 1999
and stood in the very spot that he twisted his knee while dancing to
Fats Domino in 1953. He still wears a knee brace after having a cartiledge operation in 1959. There is an exhibit about Dan Obrien, world record holder in the decathalon, in the museum. Tom's son Robert Premo competed against Dan at the Prefontain Meet in Eugene with Dan taking first place in the 110-High Hurdle event and Robert coming in second, see Robert's Track Webpage. There is a bicycle just like Tom's on display at the museum.
