The Mavis’s - Throwing Little Stones (The Best of)

Their name would no doubt cause nightmares to any self-respecting English teacher, nevertheless the Mavis’s have been demonstrating their clever brand of pop music with a twist over the past decade or so. This compilation features all the Mavis’s hits and then some. Their two albums “Venus returning” and “Pink Pills” seem almost over represented with around half the tracks on each album making the list. This does however allow one to appreciate their strong album tracks along with their singles.

For those who already own their two albums there’s a stack of odds and ends that will make the compilation worth your while. They include their debut single ‘Rollercoaster,’ ‘Walk on by’ taken from the tribute album “To Hal and Bacharach” as well as their cover of Duran Duran’s ‘Planet Earth.” There are also five tracks from their never released “Rapture” including the single ‘Coming home.’

This is without a doubt a must for any Mavis’s fan. Unless you’ve collected all their releases and managed to acquire “Rapture” there will be something here worth checking out here. Furthermore given there’s 21 tracks on offer here it is also possibly better value than their two studio albums alone. 1
