Once again it’s that time of the year when all the festivals start touring round Australia and thus here is the latest CD paying tribute to Australia’s own Home bake festival. As has been the case in the previous 5 editions Home bake volume 6 showcases the who’s who of Australian music over the past year or so.
On offer are samples of some of Australia’s most promising acts; in particular we hear songs from The Sleepy Jackson and Gelbsion. Along with this there are also the major Australian artists such as Alex Lloyd with his song ‘Bus ride,’ Jebediah with ‘yesterday when I was brave’ and of course Australian rock legends Radio Birdman with ‘new race.’ Furthermore we also see some band members go out solo such as Something for Kate’s Paul Dempsey with his song ‘Stunt show’ and Ratcat’s Simon Day with ‘everybody.’ There is also a massive range of styles to be found on this compilation from the rocking sounds of Superheist with their song ‘a dignified race’ to the country sounds of Kassey Chambers’ ‘Barricades & brickwalls’ and then to the electronic/dance sounds of Sonic Animation’s ‘it’s time.’ Thus there is defiantly something for everyone on this packed double CD.
As far as compilations go this is the one to get, especially as far as Australian music is concerned! With a total of 40 songs from 40 different artists it is easily the most comprehensive collection of new Australian music you’re going to find while with over two and a half hours worth of music on offer it is defiantly value for money. Like any compilation it’s unlikely that everyone will like every song that’s here but there is more then enough songs here such that the chances are you’ll like enough of them for it to be worthwhile.
