Sung by Art Garfunkel and Amy Grant
and The Kings College School Choir and backed by The London Sumphony Orchestra,
this is my favorite Christmas time album. The story of Christmas
through the eyes of the animals. If I remember correctly, it
was originally done as a New York Christmas time event. I'm
really not sure, but I think it was at Radio City Music Hall.
I would never have learned of it had it not been for local news reports
during the 1986 Christmas season. I guess I should read more
"trade" papers, but I don't.
This album is just loaded with some of the best melodies
you'll ever hear. I have no idea if it ever met with any commercial
success, but if you listen around Christmas time to your radio, your bound
to hear Carol of the Birds. It's played more and more every
Christmas season. It's just too bad it wasn't played as often
when it was released.
The entire album is great (I'm getting pretty redundant, ain't I?). The
last two tracks are especially inspiring; Herod and Wild Geese. Every
time I see a flock of Canadian Geese flying in that familiar V fomation,
I get goose bumps and think of this song.
