This is one of my favorite Mr. Webb albums. I hesitate to say "favorite" because after this one, they just get better and better. But there's no better album to play when one is in a "mood." Although there are no tracks on this album that are "bad", the outstanding tracks are Cloudman, Crying In My Sleep, the symphonic, triumphant Land's End/Asleep On The Wind, and Just This One Time..

Ocean
In His Eyes
I've heard you say ya love me
But I'm not sure you know just what ya mean
Cause if you did ya couldn't leave me
Standing somewhere in between your scenes
Someday you'll understand what pain
is
When it's too late and your man has gone away
I don't think your human but I'll
I'll miss you anyway
Why don't you even call me
Or would that put too much of a strain on you
And when you do you always accuse me
Of something you're afraid you might do
Someday you'll understand how wrong
you are
Cause my conscience shines on bright and clear as day
Ya never belive me but I
Try to tell you anyway
And he cries
And he cries
There's an ocean in his eyes
See
how low he flies
When his baby's gone
I flew a kite this morning
I flew it out
Over the sea
And wen I saw it drownin later
It reminded you of me
Someday you'll
understand what I just said
When your poetry fails and you cannot make me stay
You got some strings on me but I'll
I'll lose you anyway
And he cries
And he cries
There's an ocean in his eyes
See how low he flies
When his baby's gone
Why don't you look and see
How low he flies
When his baby's
Gone
Feet
In The Sunshine
I know you got troubles
I can tell cause the soles of your shoes look grim
Your feet have done a lot for you
Why don't ya do somthing for them
You've got to walk your feet in
the sunshine sometime
Do it every day
You've gotta walk 'em right next to mine baby
Those purple shadows will fade away
I know you're uncertain
I can tell by the way ya stand
Your insole must be hurtin
Why don't you give your feet a helpin hand yeah
You've gotta walk your feet in the sunshine sometime
Do it every day
Ya gotta walk em right next to mine baby
Those purple shadows will fade away
Don't the beach look grand this
morning
The sky's a windswept white on blue
Kickin though the sand this morning
The sun will soon come shinin through
Get your feet back to the land this mornin
Your feet have done a lot for you
Do your friends seem to give you
the run around
Do they make you feel like you're a heel
Well if you think that you're lookin rundown sundown
Think how badly your feet feel
And you gotta
Walk your feet in the sunshine sometime
Do it every day
You gotta walk em right next to mine baby
Those purple shadows will fade away
Treat your feet to a barefoot day
Cloudman
How much do I love you
Just as far as I can reach you now
But the floor feels cold this mornin
Yes I fear there's nothin left to teach you now
Soon sweet lady
You will walk away from me
Into your own reality
But please
Please remember air
Air is everywhere
The Cloudman always see it there
And waits to paint you pictures
on the wind around you
Please recall the days when love found you
And when the tide breeze rustling curtains in the summer evening
Bears the imprint of some distant twinkling chimes
Think about the cloudman sometimes
'
How much can I show you
Just as far as I can
See you now
But the rain dissolves the colours
Till it seems the image can hardly be you now
Cold sort sighted rain
That flows between our eyes
We cannot see our own goodbyes
But please
Please remember air
Air is everywhere
The Cloudman always sees it here
And waits to paint you pictures on the wind around you
Please recall the days when love found you
And when the tide breeze rustling curtains in the summer evening
Bears the imprint of some distant twinkling chimes
Think about the cloudman
Sometimes
The Cloudman always sees
You
There
Lady
Fits Her Blue Jeans
The lady fits her old blue jeans
Hitches rides in limousines
Ya know there's a lot of kings and queens
Who would envy her in a t shirt she wears
Platform shoes and applique
Antique lace and acrame
Oh I have watched her sit and play
With a daisy chain or a baby's hand and
Oh so elegantly she stands with
a stolen rose
Rings for her fingers and a kiss for her nose
And will have music wherever she goes
The lady wears the best perfume
Takes her time in her old man's bathroom
She lures the old man to his doom
He was ambushed by the shaving cream
Or a helping of strawberry pie
Served up right between his eyes
You dare not make the lady cry
You know revenge is swift an sticky and
Yes she may have one of these
And yes she may have one of those
Rings for her fingers and a kiss for her nose
And she will have music wherever the lady goes
The lady dines like a movie star
Or we count our cash in some back street bar
But it don't matter where we are
You know those heads turn round when she walks in
In borrowed room or a fine hotel
You might find heaven and ya might find hell
The lady fits her blue jeans so well
Ya know she'll hurt ya but she'll help ya too
And yes she may have one of these
And yes she may have one of those
Rings for her fingers and a kiss for her nose
And she will have music whereever the lady goes
She will have music
Wherever she goes
Just
This One Time
I've gotta try just one more time
To help you believe me
Look into my eyes
Check my face for lies
And you might see
My life's never been everything I wanted it to be
But with you I could change this bad luck
With you I could hold my head up
And darlin darlin
Just this one time
I need someone to believe in me
To breathe it with me
Get beneath it with me now sweet momma
Just this one time
I've gotta say
The perfect thing
I can't make mistakes now
Gotta read your signs
I've gotta write those magic lines
You've gotta hear
I know I've given you every reason in this whole round world to fear me now
But my love's a raging river
And you've trapped it in your hands
Sweet darlin
Just this one time
I need someone to believe in me
Believe in me yeah yeah yeah
Just this one time
I need someone ta leave it with me
To breathe it with me
Get beneath it with me now sweet momma
Just this one time
Just this one time
I really need somebody
Just this one time
I really need someone
Just this one time
I need someone to believe
Believe in me yeah yeah yeah
Just this one time
I really need somebody
Just this one time
I really need someone
Just this ne time
I need someone to believe
Believe in me yeah yeah yeah yeah
Cryin In My Sleep
I took a walk around the yard
I dug the flowers till it got too hard I
Smoked my first pack of cigarettes today
While I watched the dogs play and
Then I I went down
Down to Lucy's old cafe
I put a half a case away
I took a sleepin pill and tried ta watch TV
But you know baby the leading lady looked too much like you for the likes
of me
And I woke up
Cryin in my sleep
I was talking to your pillow
And I reached out to touch your hand
I knocked the phone off the night stand
And the operator said
May I help you please
And I said
No thanks baby tonight there ain't no help for me you see, I just had a bad
dream
That's all that's wrong with me
Ya see I just had a bad dream
Went out to loosen up the car
Somehow I wound up at the Rainbow Bar
I had a scotch and soda on the run
But I didn't get too far
Then I, I ran down
Down some friends I used to know
I dragged them out to see the show
I ran myself a bath and I tried to read your book
But you know baby this time it just didn't seem worth all the time it took
And I woke up
Cryin in my sleep
I was talking to your pillow
And I reached out to touch your hand
I knocked the phone off the night stand
And the operator said
May help you please
And I said
No thanks baby tonight there ain't no help for me ya see I just had a bad
dream
I woke up crhin
Cryin and tryin to find ya babe
Cryin and tryin to find ya babe.
It's A Sin
Now the Lord will forgive you for cheatin
And the Lord will forgive you if you lie
Yes He'll forgive and He'll help you live
But He sure frowns down soundly on you and I babe
Must be a sin when you love somebody
Damned if you don't
Twice damned if you do oh yes
Must be a sin when you love somebody baby
As much as I'm lovin you
Now the Lord has been known for His kindness
Always willing to set poor sinners free
He'll save your soul and He'll make you whole
But I don't see no angels comin down to shine no lights on you and me babe
Must be a sin when you love somebody
Damned if you don't
Twice damned if you do oh yes
Must be a sin when you love sombody babe
As much as I'm loving you
Oh oh oh yeah yeah yeah
Ow ow o
Must be a sin baby
Alyce Blue Gown
Sweet little Alyce blue gown
You're born to a palace bringdown
And I've know your secret for a real real long time
Recall what I told you when
You were by my side and
Don't let no married people
Take you for a ride
I just can't go on this way
I'm beggin to tell you the reasons
For running away if your runnin needs be
Cause you were the prettiest thing
That ever wore blue
Or blue ever wore
See little toe shoes blown away
Your lost in a grown up ballet
And I hear ya whisperin
Forbiden poetry
You stand on one side and
I on the other
Don't do it for your daddy baby
Don't
Do it for your mother
You just can't go on this way
The hourglass sand runs qucksilver
Till it covers the children who refuse to be free
And you were the prettiest thing
That ever wore blue
Or blue
Ever wore
Pray for Alyce
Walk down to the devil and
Stand on a great height
It trembles unsees at the
Edge of your eyesight
And you just can't go on this way
I'm beggin to tell you the reasons
For runnin away if your runnin needs be
Cause you were
The prettiest thing
That ever wore blue
Or blue
Ever wore
Pray for Alyce
Oh yeah
I bet you didn't think she
Bet you didn't think she could rock 'n roll
yeah yeah yeah
I bet you didnt think she
Bet you dind't think she could rock 'n roll
I bet you didn't think she
Bet you didn't think she could rock 'n roll
Yeah yeah yeah yea yeah yeah
LAND'S END (ASLEEP ON THE WIND)
Love is a glass of wine
It's balanced on the side rail of a ship
Across the sea at midnight calm
It may not last the daylight calm
And the trip is long
And the waves are stong
But then again it might be up there forever
I've heard of birds that never touch the land but
Sleep on the winds
And if untouched by someone's careless hand
Asleep on the winds
Our love might last until the journey ends
Alive
Alive
And our lives are just bubbles of time
They're rainbow colored and they're shining in the sun
They drift above the tree tops now
In danger if the breeze drops somehow
And darling
That's all it would take
Yet we threaten not to break
And you know
We could be up here forever
I've heard of birds that never touch the land but
Sleep on the winds
And if untouched by someone's careless hand
Asleep on the winds
Our lives might last until the love begins
So stay alive
And let me try as hard as you do
To stay alive
Please let me be as much alive as you
I'll try
Alive
Alive
