Thomas Lewis: Photography Page

This page is dedicated to my attempts at photography.

Bio: I finished my Computer and Network Engineering degree at Sheffield Hallam University in 2001, Obtaining an upper second class honours degree. Since finishing uni I've spent the last year slacking occasionally working at my local M&S to keep the cash flowing. After I decided it was about time I got myself a 'proper' job, I saw an ad in the paper for a trainee programer, at a company called Alphameric. To cut a long story short I got the job and start on the 13th of may. And that's about all you need to know.

dpchallenge.com

In my opinion dpchallenge has got to be the best site on the net. There isn't a bad thing that I could say about it. If you haven't already check it out.

My Galleries

Putting my pics on my own site was too much like hard work so for my convenience I have placed some of my pictures on pbase.com a great site that lets you upload your photos in to easily arranged galleries and browses other peoples photographs. View my galleries here.

dpreview.com

This is the site that started it all, when I got my camera I didn't really read the instruction manual beyond how to turn the it on and press the shutter release. So when I read the review of the Sony DSC-S70 on dpreview, I was amazed with what I could do with my camera. Which led to my experimenting with the settings and enjoying photography as a hobby not just something you do on holiday to show your friends when you get home.

The Equipment

Camera : Sony DSC-S70

I got this camera for my 21st birthday in 2001, I only used it to take holiday snaps and pictures of friends and family, until a couple of months ago when I started experimenting with the settings and began thinking about composition, lighting, shutter speed, etc.

Media : Sony Memory Stick™, 8MB and 64MB

I hadn't had my camera very long when I realized that the 8MB memory stick supplied with the camera just wasn't going to cut the mustard, so I got myself a 64MB memory stick. Which I am now beginning to find a little small for what I require, as I am taking 100+ shots a week when submitting to dpchallenge.

Tripod : Vanguard Miniature Tripod

This is a cool little tripod, it fits easily into my camera bag or my pocket and is fairly sturdy. Really handy for shots that require a long exposure. The only drawback is that it only extends to about 7 inches however this can create some interesting angles.
