I get into my tourist gear, whip out the camera, and I'm off and ready for action! The usual training was endured, made extra lengthy due to the recent antics of the train drivers taking their sweet time on the radios and cancelling heaps of services. Eventually I made it to Circular Quay, and hopped on the Friendship Ferry to Taronga Zoo ... The adventure began. I love the ferry trips from Circular Quay, you get the most lovely views of the city. Seeing my future home (Which currently consists of the Park Hyatt Circular Quay) whisked me off into a state of peaceful contemplation. I visioned my plans of knocking down the hotel and building my home/skate park/skate shop. Also, the close up view of the Opera House got me thinking about planning some outings there. I saw some ads for the Sydney Symphony Orchestra on tv, and I found out that they're playing Tchaikovsky in May - Woohoo I'll be there! The usual landmarks of the Harbour Bridge, the botanical gardens and that prison island place thingo were passed, and in next to no time I arrived at the destination. I really picked up the vibe that the zoo was making me feel very welcome, so it was a nice start to the trip. I got one on one of those skychair things that takes you to the top of the zoo, and I took the opportunity to get some nice pics of the Sydney landscape. Once I hit the top, it was all downhill from there (A much loved geographical aspect of Taronga Zoo), and I just went crazy running around taking pictures of all the animals I could find - Even an unsuspecting little pigeon ... This particular trip was aimed at just getting pics of all the animals to see what the zoo has to offer, but in future I will plan specific photo shoots, where I will spend more time at particular animal exhibits and try and get classic shots and actually learn things about our little furry friends. However, I still managed to get a few nice shots amidst my frenzy of photo taking ... I especially liked the lookout point at the zoo, where you get the most amazing view of the harbour. In general, all the exhibits involve looking at animals chomping down on food, and in due time I got to feeling hungry, so I decided it was time I did some chomping of my own. I really appreciate how the zoo uses recycled cardboard for all their packaging to help the environment (I have a feeling the food is also made of recycled cardboard). Chomp on this ... The hours ticked on and before I knew it, it was time to start heading back so that I could make it to my beloved Bible study on time. Although my first trip was a short one, it was very relaxing and liberating, and I look forward to the zoological adventures that the future has in store. Amen. |
