Interview conducted by Naberius with Surt (Drums) of Black Trinity.

Before Black Trinity you were in a band called Noctuary (OH, USA).  What happened with that?

Noctuary was formed in 1996 by Hymir, Hellfrost, Ibex, and myself.  We were basically more of a death/black metal band back then.  The band lasted about two years and then fell apart due to inside problems.  We did one self titled demo and have a couple of rehearsal tapes.  All in all, it was a good band and we still may resurrect a song or two.

I noticed a line-up change; what happened with Shadowthorn (ex-guitars) and Hellfrost (ex-vocals)?

I asked Hellfrost to help out BT because we didn't have a singer yet so, he was never really a permanent member of the band.  When I started putting this band together, I was in another band called Myth and Shadowthorn was the guitarist.  I asked him if he wanted to play for BT and he agreed.  We then started to write material for the first two demos.  In the end, Shadowthorn was always late to practice and his style of playing just wasn't what we thought would help out the band.  So, he was released right after the Devil Worship demo.

How did you find Khaine (Vocals)?

We made flyers and placed them at Guitar Center.  He then got in contact with me and we set up a try-out.  That's pretty much it.

...Ibex (Guitars)?

Like I said, Ibex was an original Noctuary member.  He quit after about a year of playing with Noctuary to join the army.  It wasn't until November of 2003 that we came in contact again.  He saw a flyer for one of our shows and it had my cell phone number on it for ticket sales.  He called and I asked him to be a part of the Trinity Horde.  It's good to have him back in the band again.

...Arawn (Bass)?

I met Arawn at a gothic club.  I saw this dude in an Emperor shirt so I asked him if he wanted to play bass for the band.  He fits the whole bassist image well, but he's a guitarist at heart.

You have a few demos out.  Any plans for a future realease?

Yes, we have three demos.  We have Black Trinity, Devil Worship, and Of Darkness Divine.  We are currently waiting for our album to be mixed and mastered.  It should be ready by the end of this month.  We have signed to Satanic Perversion Records out of New York.  The album is titled Demonic Pleasures.  It is planned to be released by the summer of 2004.

What do you think of the black metal scene in Ohio?

There's only a couple of BM bands in Ohio.  You have A Gruesome Find from Toledo and Manticore from Cleveland.  Other than that, there's not many here.

...in the USA?

There's a good amount of really good USA BM bands out there.

...in general?

It's good to see the younger guys come up and keep the  black metal scene alive.  We need this to keep black metal evolving and growing stronger.

Okay, this is the one you're probably tired of answering but I have to ask anyway.  The intro and outro to the demo Devil Worship contains a real newscast about Arawn and a statue of the baby Jesus.  What exactly happened?

HA HA HA!  He went to jail for desecrating a statue of baby Jesus.  His buddy stole the statue out of a manger and Arawn helped in making the statue look evil via corspepaint and pentagrams.

Who are your favorite bands right now, or are currently listening to, of any genre?

Oh man, this is tough to answer.  I've been lisening to the new Khold album a lot.  This CD rules.  The new Marduk DVD is killer.  Also Infernal (SWE) and of course, Darkthrone.

Where do you see Black Triniy in five years from now?

Hopefully still together and touring the world.

Any other closing thoughts or comments?
