If Tomorrow Never Comes
Chapter 18
Shane and Mel came back round the corner of the bar, to see Gillian and Nicky making
out like crazy. “Ofcourse,” Shane muttered under his breath.
Mel looked at Shane, then over to Nicky and Gill, then looked back over at Shane.
“You know what,” Melanee said, smiling slyly, “we could use this situation to our
advantage.”
Shane looked over at Melanee suspiciously, “what do you mean?” he asked, raising
his eyebrows, “what are you concocting in that little head of yours?”
Melanee smiled, “well, right now, Gill and Nicky kissing is making you jealous, right.”
“Yes…” Shane said, looking at Melanee strangely, “and what does that have to do with
this plan of yours?”
“Well,” Melanee said, putting her arms around Shane’s waist, “I’m just thinking that
the phrase ‘two can play at that game’ is quite suited to this situation.”
“Melanee rose Spencer!” Shane said, mockingly, “you are not suggesting that we pretend
to be an item, to get those two jealous, are you?”
“Got it in one,” Melanee said, kissing Shane on the cheek, “there’s just one thing
we gotta work out, first.”
“What?” Shane said, getting quite excited about their little plan.
“We gotta be able to be a convincing couple, okay,” Melanee said, taking a breath,
“we gotta look real, we gotta act real and we gotta kiss like we really are in love,
okay.”
“Oh I think can handle that,” Shane said, “let’s go over there, and see what we can
do, okay.”
“Remember, Shane,” Melanee said, raising her finger, “I’m doing this purely for you
and Gill, I have no feelings for Nicky what so ever. This isn’t a plan to get he
and I together, it is a plan to get you and Gill together.”
“Yeah right,” Shane said, laughing, “I believe ya Mel.”
Melanee punched Shane on the shoulder, “they won’t believe us,” she said, shaking
her head, “no way are they gonna believe that I’m going out with an idiot like you!”
“Oh, really,” Shane scoffed, “I think it’s gonna be the other way round, myself!”
“Ofcourse you do,” Melanee said, smiling widely, “now come on, the time has come
for us to act better than we’ve ever acted before!”
“Let’s go,” Shane said, taking Mel’s hand in his, “my love!”
They walked over hand in hand to where the others were sitting, and sat down beside
Mark and Candy. “Hi guys…” Mark said nervously, “everything okay?”
“Everything’s fine,” Melanee said, smiling at everyone, “Shane and I just needed
to… talk.” Bryan eyed them suspiciously, “are you two…” he asked.
“Are we what, Bryan?” Melanee said, holding back a laugh.
“Together!” Mark and Bryan said together, making the others at the table all look
up and laugh.
Shane concealed a smile, “should we tell ‘em, Mel?” he said, turning to Melanee,
who was working equally as hard not to laugh.
“I think we should,” she spluttered out.
Nicky and Gill both watched intently as Shane and Mel raised their hands from underneath
the table, to reveal them entangled in each other.
“We’ve been seeing each other for a couple of weeks,” Shane said, to the bunch of
open-mouthed faces that looked back at him.
Nicky put his hand, automatically around Gill’s shoulders, “that’s…erm…great guys,”
he said, his eyes darting back and forth from Shane to Mel.
Melanee noticed this and smiled to herself.
She pulled Shane closer to her, as if to certify that they were indeed a couple,
and whispered in his ear, “he’s jealous…”
Shane smiled, and the whole table except Nicky and Gill, smiled at the site.
“Look,” Bryan said, pointing at Shane and Mel, “they are whispering sweet nothings
to each other!”
Shane burst out laughing at this, so Melanee quickly kissed him to shut him up.
Shane caught on, and rapt his arms around Melanee’s neck.
When they finally pulled apart, they glanced over to where Nicky and Gillian were
sitting.
“Bingo!” Melanee whispered, just loud enough for Shane to hear, “jealousy is written
all over their faces.”
“And we’ve only just started,” Shane whispered back, “we’ve still got all night!”
