“Hi, can I speak to Gill, please,” Shane said to an administrator at ‘kinky advertisements Ltd’. “Sure sir, just one moment,” she said, reaching down toward her phone, “oh, there she is,” she said, pointing to an open office door, “she just went in there.” Shane smiled, “thanks,” he said, placing the bunch of flowers he had brought behind his back. He walked over to the office door, and was about to walk in when Gill came out and bumped into him. “Shane?” Gill said, smiling widely, “what are you doing here?” “Just came to surprise my fave girl,” he said, kissing her lightly on the lips, “did I surprise you?” “Ofcourse you did,” Gill said, looking around her, “come into my office, no-one will notice if I don't work for 10 minutes.” Shane smiled, “what are we doing in 10 minutes?” he asked, raising his eyebrows. “Hey,” Gill said, laughing, “you May be able to be this cheeky with Mel, but with me it’s a different story!” “Oh,” Shane said, pouting, “I thought my cheekiness was one of my better qualities!” Gill just kept on laughing and led Shane into her office, “take a seat,” she said, going to a cabinet by the door, “would you like a drink?” “What have you got?” Shane asked, looking around the office, “nice office…” “Thanks,” Gill said, smiling, “is coke okay, I'm out of anything stronger.” “Coke’s fine,” Shane said, smiling, “Calvin Klein really suits you, by the way.” Gill blushed as she passed Shane a coke, “thanks,” she said, sitting down on the other side of her desk, “so…” “oh right,” Shane said, sitting up, “I actually came here for a purpose, more than just to see your gorgeous face!” Gill smiled sweetly at Shane, “and what reason would that be?” she said, “anything exciting?” “Hopefully,” Shane said, returning the smile, “I was wondering if you’d like to come out tonight, maybe with Mel and Nick as well, if I can arrange it.” “Sounds like fun,” Gill said, looking down at her watch, “oh, Shane, shit, I'm so sorry… I have a meeting in like 5 minutes…shit, I totally forgot!” “That’s alright,” Shane said, laughing slightly at Gill’s concerned expression, “I'll call you in a couple of hours then, okay.” “Thanks so much,” Gill said, picking up her briefcase from the floor, “I'm so sorry to have to do this to you…” “Honestly, it’s fine,” Shane said, “I have to go shopping with Mel later on, anyway.” “Shopping with Mel?” Gill asked, laughing, “do you really want to do that?” “I love it!” Shane said, shaking his head, “it’s tiering but definitely fun.” “I remember when we went on shopping trips together,” Gill said, heading out the door with Shane, “we had a right laugh. Except when Mel’s dad got the credit card bill…” Shane laughed, “so I'll call you in a bit, alright,” he leaned in and kissed her softly on the cheek, “bye, Gill.” Gill smiled after him, “bye, Shane,” she said, waving him off, “see you tonight.” Shane waved Gill off, and once she was out of sight, he took out his mobile and dialled a familiar number. “Hello,” a happy sounding female voice answered, “what’s up, Shay?” “I hate caller id,” Shane said, laughing, “I can’t surprise you anymore!” “Hey, Hun, where are you?” she asked, “I’m missing you!” “I'll be home in about 10 minutes, Mel,” Shane said, hopping into his car, “I've just seen Gill… she’s warned me about our little endeavour this afternoon.” Melanee laughed, “oh, come on,” she said, “I know you love coming shopping with me, I always buy you ice-cream!” “I know,” Shane said, laughing too, “I do love shopping with you, you have great taste-to I cant get into too much trouble!” “I'd never let you look bad, would I?” Melanee said, innocently, “never!” “Is Nicky still there?” Shane asked, turning off the highway, “or has he jumped ship?” “Jumped ship?” Melanee said, snorting, “well he left, if that’s what you mean. He didn’t jump ship, honestly Shane!” Shane smiled at this, “you know what I mean,” he said, pulling his car up in the drive-way, “I'm home, talk to you in a sec.” Shane got out of the car, and saw Melanee waving from the doorway. Shane couldn’t help but notice how good she looked. She had changed out of her jeans and instead put on a pair of leather trousers and a denim jacket. “What are you all dressed up, for?” he called up the path, smiling widely. “I cant go shopping in a pair of old jeans!” Mel exclaimed, “god, Shane, the things I need to explain to you!” Shane just shook his head, “you still looked beautiful in the jeans,” he said, reaching Mel and giving her a hug, “or at least, I thought so!” Mel smiled, and squeezed Shane tightly, “thanks, luv,” she said, opening the door for him, “now, I'll just grab a drink then we’ll head off, yeah?” “Sounds good,” Shane said, tossing his keys and phone on the coffee table, “oh, and how does dinner with Gill and Nicky sound for tonight?” “Sounds like a plan,” Mel hollered from the kitchen, “what time? What restaurant?” “I'm not sure yet,” Shane said, flopping down on the couch, “I have to call Gill, and then Nicky… he may be busy…” “Maybe,” Mel said, coming out of the kitchen with a glass of apple juice, “I think he said he was going to some opening thing tonight, with his sister, but I may be wrong… I'll give him a buzz later on…” She sculled the last of her juice, then sighed happily, “are we ready, then?” she said, pulling on a light scarf, “ready for a bit of retail therapy?” “Ready as I'll ever be,” Shane said, dramatically, “whose car?” “I'll drive,” Mel said, grabbing her keys from her bag, “let’s roll.” |
