“Shane!” Mel whispered into Shane’s ear as they danced. “Yeah, what?” he asked, smiling. “Fia’s here…” Mel said, nodding her head in the direction of the entrance. “Oh,” Shane said, “cool, wanna head over there?” Melanee smiled at Shane and let him go, “no,” she said, “you go over there and spend some time with the girl, I’ll just float around for a while, until those guys get here, okay.” Shane smiled broadly, and kissed Mel on the forehead, “thanks, Mel, you’re the best,” he said, dashing over to Fia and embracing her. “Ah, I know,” Mel sighed, smiling at the couple, “now, where to go?” Mel turned around and came face to face with the tall, red head, “oh no,” she said to herself. “Hello, Melanee,” the man said, smiling, “fancy meeting you here?” Melanee, not wanting to be rude, smiled back falsely, “oh, hi…George?” Mel said, slowly, not really remembering his name. “It’s Greg,” the man said, “So how are you?” “Oh, you know,” Mel said, trying to sound interested, “good, pretty good.” “Well, since I’m here,” Greg said, smiling, “and you’re here…” “Yes,” Mel croaked, knowing what was coming next. “Maybe, we should….” Greg prompted. “What?” Mel said, pretending not to know what he was talking about. “Dance!” Greg said, happily. “Erm…” Mel said, thinking quickly, “well, you know I’d love to, but I’m here with my boyfriend, and he might, you know, get jealous, or something.” Mel smiled, thinking that this would at last get rid of him. “Who’s you’re boyfriend?” Greg asked, frowning. “Erm…” Mel said, thinking again, “he is, you know…Erm, that guy…” “Who I saw you come in with?” Greg finished. “Ah…yeah!” Mel said, sighing with relief. “You mean that one who I saw kissing that pretty girl by the entrance just know?” Greg said, with a look of satisfaction of his face. “Oh,” Mel said, cursing to herself, “Erm…no, the other guy…I came in with.” Greg looked at her strangely, “and who would that be?” Melanee put her hand up to her head and rubbed it lightly, “err… “ She said, looking around, “that guy, over there,” she said, pointing to a nice looking blonde of about her age, sitting up by the bar, talking to some mates. “Really?” Greg asked, raising his eyebrows, “I didn’t think he would get back into a relationship so quickly.” “What, oh, you know him?” Melanee said, cursing her bad luck for picking a guy who he actually knew. “Yeah, he just recently broke up with the prime-minister’s daughter,” Greg said, putting extra expression on the ‘prime minister’ part, “only about 2 weeks ago, I think.” “Well, you know,”” Mel said, smiling, “we just, fell in love!” “Wow, well I’ll just be over at the bar,” Greg said, “maybe you can come with me and talk to him.” “Yep,” Melanee said, smiling falsely for the countless time that night. “Great, let’s go,” Greg said and walked over to the bar, followed by an incredibly irritated Melanee. Greg and Mel approached the bar and Greg tapped on the man’s shoulder, he spun around, “hi Nicky,” Greg said, smiling. “Oh, hi Greg,” the man said, frowning slightly, “to what do I owe this…pleasure…” “I just thought I’d bring your girlfriend round,” Greg said, satisfied that he had at last found victory, “here she is.” Greg stepped back to reveal Melanee, who was deep in thought of how to get out of the situation. Nicky’s friends looked confused and shocked. “My what?” Nicky said, nearly choking on his drink, “I don’t have a….” Melanee, who had been thinking about her options, did the only thing she could do. She reached down and kissed, the very surprised Nicky, passionately. Both Nicky, his mates and Greg gaped in disbelief as Mel pulled back with a satisfied look on her face, “okay, Greg, thanks for getting me safely back to…Nicky, now if you don’t mind, I’d like some private time with him.” Greg, still looking bewildered, uttered something barely audible and sulked off in the opposite direction. Then Mel turned back to the still-shocked Nicky; “I can explain” she began. |
